I'm wondering what databases the app is running off of, because it is really lacking at least in the US. I live in a city of 5 million people and I can find almost nothing. :(

It has some events, but as a local concert promoter and database administrator I think it is more an issue with the ZVents website that you are using as your database for the app. I'd never even heard of it before I was looking at the GigFinder app.
I live in Houston, TX and I can tell you that there are probably on average about 3-5 gigs a day, but the ZVents has mainly only major stadium/arena events. I would venture to say that you're not going to get a complete list searching only one websites' database. I webscrape of multiple websites or database relationships is in order. Difficult without someone working on that constantly to expand the different communities. Last.FM, Ticketmaster/LiveNation, among other would help. It would also be useful to go to smaller ticketing agencies, because the list of club/small venue shows is abysmal. I want the app, but with its limited number of events right now it is not as desirable. I can definitely offer some solutions.

The listings aren't so bad now for my city (Minneapolis), though far from exhaustive. But the option to buy tickets is awful, offering tickets for $70 which are available online from the club for $20. Maybe this is outside Nokia's control.
