When trying to install, I get a message saying 'Application not compatible with phone. Continue anyway?'. I ignore this message, and say yes, as per the instructions on the download page. It starts the install, and then I get the message 'Update Error', and it stops the installation.

By mistake I tried to install the FP2 version. Now, every trial to reinstall with FP1 version ends up in an "Update Error" (German text is: Aktualisierungs Fehler!)
Can I delete something from program manager and if yes, what?

I found the comment from Pekka Rissanen to delete "IS Very Lite Localizer" from program manager. It's true FP2 version of HaN is deleted from my N95 8GB.
Insatllation of HaN for FP1 was succesful and is running now.

I had "here and now" on my e71 and deleted it but I still get "update error" when trying to reinstall the update version!
Checked through all the apps in "app. Manager" and cannot see and referencve to here and now. Any ideas ho I can resolve this?

There are three sis files installed (one main + two embedded) and two of those should be visible in the Application manager: a) Here and now and b) Here and now localizer. Uninstalling both of those should remove all three parts of the application. Rebooting is also a good idea after the uninstallation.
