Even i was surprised to find my city detected correctly. It is definitly not using GPS, though it might be using A-GPS.
Cool stuff.
If it's not using GPS then it's not using A-GPS as all A-GPS does is help GPS get it's intial lock.
Must be using Network Based Positioning.

Yes, we are using the Cell ID from the network. It is accurate enough for things like weather and events.

It is working like a charm redreku. It was nice to see an app detecting the location without taking the time for the GPS locking or asking the user for the data.
Nice work.
Thank you for the nice comments, we are working on making it even faster;-)

one thing though, even while I can't run this in my n95, I can tell you that using the cell id w/ friend view or maps in chile and australia at least locates you in the wrong hemisphere (wrong sign of latitude)
Definitely something we have to look into. Maybe a field test trip would be in order... it will never get approved, though;-) Seriously speaking, I'll ask around and see what the Maps guys have to say about this.

Hi Users, I am located in southern China, Shenzhen , BaoAn. However Here and Now, shows the weather information from XiAn, which is pretty far away. Any idea why the Cell ID has been wrongly identified?

Hi Users, there seems to be a small glitch in the "translation" of the cell ID. I am located in southern China, Shenzhen, BaoAn, XiXian. Here and Now shows Xin`an! This is actually not correct. It should be rather Xi Xiang than Xin` an. Any comments on that?
regards Rainer
