I installed JR 2.1 Beta for symbian from nokia betalabs forgetting three things: My user agent string says I already have 2.1 installed (!): is the beta an advance (last update to it being 21/04/10) or a retrograde, in which case it should no longer be there; 2) I already have a version which seemed to work perfectly well - Java2_Beta_2_1_18.sis - is this the same version? 3) and this is my fault, I set my phone as the X6, not the X6-00 - could this be the cause of the following problems?:
Once having installed the JR, and having let it convert my pre-installed midlets and rebooted my phone, as instructed, I launched opera mini which I had not heretofore launched, it installed, permissions were granted and all seemed well. I then exited after syncing and a bit of browsing and went back to it later and relaunched - but it merely started installing again, and when it finished all my bookmarks where there etc but I was signed out of opera link. Curious I exited again, relaunched and the same behaviour occurred. I therefore went to un-install JR Beta but 'Installed apps' was inaccessible (!), I just got a black screen and then was bounced back to App manager menu. I turned off the phone, pulled the battery, waited a couple of mins, rebooted but the same thing happened. Most annoying! So I installed 'App Uninstall' that I had purchase a year or two ago and was able to see and un-install JR Beta but then no midlet would launch.I un-installed my midlets using the X6-00 'Organise' interface and reinstalled om but it still would not launch and App.manager still would not open. Looking at the file system I realised that there where now multiple instances of the same midlets and therefore possibly the OS, both the native JR and Symbian was probably in conflict. So wiping all traces of all midlets and, voila, app manager started working. However, and a final bug, my home screen will no longer show date, time and signal bar. I think, finally, I will have to hard factory reset or failing that reflash.
I'm sorry for the length of this bug report but as you can imagine it is difficult for me to determine what is peculiar and what is a real bug. Most annoying!
