Anyone had tried Google lattitude on Google mobile maps 3.0?
It's seems much better, well integrated than Nokia Friend View.
I liked that it uses existing google account, and also has web version with igoogle.
Nokia Friend View will need to work hard to fight google now.

Nokia is in a way already on the path to offering everything Google is offering with latitude.
With the soon to be released Maps 3, your Contact on Ovi contacts will show up on your Nokia Maps 3, along with their status message.
Don't see a future for Nokia Friends View after this happens, most probably it will be archived, its place taken by the mighty OVI services.
And Friend View also has a web client and uses your existing Nokia account. I think the bigger problem is that latitude works on a range of different devices, while friend view works only on S60. I for one hope they open it up...
I mean, Microsoft also offers software for macs, Apple for Windows, why shouldn't Nokia extend their services to other mobile OS's?

I agree that in some ways Google has copied Nokia this time around but they have done it well.
Also Nemoi made good point that lattitude is multi-platform solution which is it's strength.
I wish Nokia also opens up their services to other hardwares. May be OVI will be available to Samsung ,LG s60 devices soon.
That's the way they are headed , no longer only mobile device company , its Internet services company.

The one thing that has to be different from google latitude, is latitude, being running on google maps on s60 devices, is, for no good reason at all, always downloading the map data for the location you're in.
In my opinion, the big flaw in google maps, which nokia needs to stay away of, is being always downloading the map. Maps 2.0 / 3.0 already has a way of preloading maps. I think this is the way to go for any application which wants to display map data: first use whatever is on the device memory / card, then allow the user to decide on downloading missing map data. Only being able to download it is irresponsible and only produces costs and global warming.
100 % true.
This is where Nokia Maps have really great advantage over Google latitude. In places where we do not have network/GPRS, Google's product becomes useless.
I find 2 HUGE advantages with Friendview over Latitude
1) Friendview will use the bluetooth GPS if you want it to when it is in the background!!! Latitude won't and sometimes I really want it too. Latitude turns itself into a background app within about 1 minute if you are not pressing buttons, and in that time it still usually doesn't send your exact location to the server.
2) I have a number of friends on Latitude now, and some are rarely sharing their location. Latitude asks "Do you want to continue sharing your location" every 2 days or so, and if you don't answer in time it logs them out completely requiring them to enter their username and password again. So you have to call them and ask them to reactivate it first... It's a waste of time to ask them to log in again because it won't be working next time you want it. Friend View has the advantage that it does not require that extra level of attention to keep it running. Why should these "time savers" like Latitude have to keep getting your attention and wasting time?
I tried to use latitude for vehicles in a business... Point number 2 has turned latitude into a useless application for my business.
If you can keep those two things in mind with your next iteration of friendview (however it turns up) that would be great!!!!! Latitude is frustrating me soo much
Yes 2 good points and with now friend alert in FV its much better.
