Image Exchange S60 Client will not close

This may be a fisrt use bug which will go away after re-boot, but I installed Image Exchange, new version (0.95) over my previous version (0.93) and started the application fine, if a little slow to start.

When I connected to updoad the one new photo I had taken since last discooencting and closing the app everything seemed fine. Notice the top right icons have changed ever so slightly.

When I then exited the app still connected my phone froze in the folder that I have the Image Exchange icon and Image Exchange did not close (Circular icon to top right of app image and shows up in task manager).

I have now re-booted my phone to see if this continues.

When Image Exchange is left in auto mode and and connected, when you close the app the data connection remains. Is this supposed to happen when I have no new images awaiting upload. This didn't used to happen.

My issue is not my data plan, but my battery life. Should it not disconnect and only connect when there are new images to be uploaded?

Hi,

Nokia Image Exchange, when connected modes, keeps the data channel open unless explicitly disconnected. This is done to be able to automatically receive updates from the server, and includes changes to your images' metadata as well as receiving shared images and comments.

While this does have an effect to battery life, what consumes the battery most is the amount of data traffic that is likely to be generated by the newly taken images. To make sure that even this does not happen unintentionally, please disconnect the client from options-menu.

Any ideas on the initial bug, pre-reboot.

After re-boot it seems to be fine. May just need to remind users to reboot post install and prior to opening the app.

Hi,

Nokia EnergyProfiler is your best friend if you want to decide if some always-on application consumes too much battery for you. Power consumption of ImageExchange varies depending on type of connection and network conditions, device, and probably other less obviuos factors.

For example, with 3G connection I got 0.06 W for disconnected state and 0.09 W for continuously connected state (application was closed). For WiFi connection I got 0.08W sitting next to access point; it can be higher, of course.

It seems, however, that it's good idea to close ImageExchange, as ~0.12 W are consumed when it's in background (I will investigate what's make it busy; probably, it's use of sensor).

For comparison, when my N95 8GB's screen is backlit, 0.22 W are drawn for no application running and ~1.5 W are consumed during a phone call or image uploads. The lowest value I could get in totally resting state is 0.04W.

Maintenance of open connection, thus, produces very low load on battery. Usually it's activation, data transfer and disconnections what take most.

@oleksandr: I think the killer for me is that I live in a poor/changeable network connection area such that when apps are keepnig an always on data connection the transitions between no connection, GPRS and 3G connection kills my battery faster than I were in a good reception area. The changes in reception cause the data connection to be broken and reconnected intermittently draining power during re-connect etc.

I have been complaining about this feature since the first beta! Can't understand why is it so difficult to implement an easier "Check after ever hour" feature! I don't want to be connected to my WiFi connection all the time, nor do i want to be charged for data by being connected to my data connection all the time.

I am starting to think they are not going to change the underlying idea they have of this app. Its not going to change to our liking.

@alsladka: I've discussed the always on before too.

I get arround it by disconnecting and only connecting when I want the app to upload images.
