Hi!
I'd also like to see USB internet tethering on Nokia N9.
Have you tried the Wi-Fi Hotspot application that comes with your N9? Just define the SSID and security code and start the app. Your Mac will see the N9 as WLAN network, no cables needed.
I know that already but usb is a better method as it charges the device, it's a lot faster and more secure. Why should we have to beg for something so easy to implement. Currently we have to use a workaround to get the wi-fi hopspot app to work in the US, but even if it did work properly we should have the option to tether though USB just like my N900 did easily and so do many smartphones today by default.
Still wondering if Nokia has any intentions on implementing USB tether to N9.
I think wifi works great and you can just have the hotspot to connect other devices.
I don't see this as a must have thing..
wifi tethering is nice if you need it occasionally for shorter periods of time
but if you use it often and for longer periods of time USB tethering is better;
you have to put the phone on the cable anyway for battery charge for wifi tether, so why not use cable also for data transfer which is in that case faster and more reliable too
OK i know this is not the best way, and yes they should make an official way... So after i couldn't fix the WiFi app working, NOTHING WORKS FOR ME, im on T-mobile USA, i sat and figured a way to use USB, this method only works on windows 7 to my knowledge, 'coz i haven't tried it on anything else, as i only own W7 so here goes.
1: Plug in Nokia N9 > Select "Sync and Connect" (Wait for it to install EVERYTHING)
2: Open "Network and Sharing" > Create a new network > Dial-Up connection > N9 Modem (it configures the rest, and Voila, Not same as WiFi, but it does the job)
If you want to redistribute your N9's 3.5G internet to the rest of the house through a router or to a console (xBox or Ps3, or anything with a ethernet input/output) hit me up Eltahir4all@yahoo.com
I Actually couldn't get wifi hotspot to work with ipad. All other devices (Phones) can use my N9 hotspot but not ipad.
Does anyone else have same problem?
Not exact, but similar.
Can get Win7 to connect to hotspot, no effort. Using OS X (SN & Lion), cannot. N9 comes up as a device. Managed to add it as a dialup connection over usb which worked, but wasn't great.
