Would be great if this could turn the light on to illuminate eg a menu in a dimly lit restaurant (sorry, missed the existing thread).

i have a xenon so it wouldn't work for me. but for phones that have led and dual led it may be useful.
It will be fine, but I know it cannot work for a long time. This is for the same problem that it cannot be used like a torch.

You could use Best Torch (which is freeware) and Magnifier to see if this helps.

Best Torch use the screen as torch not the led of flash on my N95, on the N95 8GB does it use the flash?
Probably I cannot understand very well, the suggestion is use magnifier with the flash on or have only the flash on for use it as torch?

Done some research and found out the following:
"The LED on the N95 is different from one found on just about all other phones with a torch. The LED in an N95 is only meant for a short burst of high current so it's brighter when it flashes. Prolonged use will result in rapid heat build-up and burn it out. If a program could control the current going to it and undervolt the LED when in a torch mode, then it would reduce the risk of burning out the LED."
Eledgedly Nice Light works on the N95 and N95 8Gb, but use at your own risk.

It's not possible to use another application to turn on the LED. Magnifier says the feature's already in use. Should be included in the Application itself.
It would be nice for light, but I understand that the LED is likely only for short bursts; however, on my e71x, the LED turns on dimly when running the video capture. That would be a great option.
No, I think you could use LEDs much longer than just for bursts, theres an option to use the LED as a Video light for as long as you are filming, and there also LED-Flashlights on the Market, so I don't see a problem with that, but it depends from the type of LED. Implementation of the Function could be a bit difficult, it should recognise the type of the phone and only make it available if the Phone has a compatible LED Type.
