Can't set up 4th account

I have set up three accounts OK, but the fourth (and most important one) fails. The website appears to try to guess the settings from the email address, it fails for some reason and gives up leaving me with no option -- it says something like try again later, but I've been trying for a week. I tried the recommended trick of using an imaginary email address (eg 1@2.cc) to confuse the mechanism and force it to ask me for the connection details, the trick works, I enter the details and then it fails again. Is there a way to bypass the problem? The account details are certainly correct (IMAP, SSL) and as I said I have already set up three accounts in NM successfully, so it's not my NM or web account set up.

It is very annoying that this mechanism tries to be smart and doesn't offer the classic set up alternative for when things go wrong.

After many attempts over more than a week, it created the account as 1@2.cc but when I try to change several settings on the handset (eg insert my name, which is currently blank) it fails to verify. More importantly, it won't let me change the From address, so I am stack with no name and the 1@2.cc address! The weird thing is that it does download messages, but every time it syncs it downloads another copy of every email -- I have three copies of each message under that account at the moment and I suspect I will get a lot more. Anyone solved this?

I really don't understand why it had to be made so difficult! The sad thing is that the designers will probably think this is more user-friendly And of course there is no support link. I emailed Nokia Support last week and they never replied.

Update: In the meanwhile, I realised one of the three accounts that worked OK didn't have my name in the From field, but it sends/receives fine. So, I tried to enter my name, verfication kicks in again, and it fails! Yet, the account still works OK in NM, but I will have to live without the name. This is by far the worst implementation of email settings I've seen in my life.

This worked! Well, sort of. The account was set up and sends/receives, but there was no SSL option during setup (optional on the server). When I go back to the web page to change the connection details, there is an SSL option, but if I try to change it, it fails to verify again, so I am stuck with the initial set up. But it works, without SSL being enabled unfortunately. If SSL was compulsory, it probably wouldn't work though.

Now, I am trying to remove an account, left behind from my previous experiments. I removed it from the website, but it won't go away from the handset and there is no Delete Acc option in NM -- I obviously exited/restarted etc just in case. The only thing that happened was that it started counting down the number of messages in the mailbox, presumably deleting them from the local folder (not from the server I hope) before it removed the account. The countdown stopped at 65! So, I can't remove the account/mailbox.

Finally, I can't change my From name in another account. It shows OK on the website, but whenever I change it from None to my name on the handset, verification fails again and NM gives up.

You could try (and do this with caution) uninstalling NM and installing a new version via the website, which should then download the settings from the website. You need to log into the website and click on the install to phone on the upper right of the account management page.

I didn't have much of a choice and re-installed over the previous installation. It seemed to work but then the mailboxes were stuck to 0 messages. I uninstalled and reinstalled 2-3 times and I had all sorts of problems. In the end I decided to forget about Nokia Messaging -- too unreliable and temperamental -- in favour of Profimail, which is exactly what a mailer should be like. It doesn't support push email, but it can emulate it if you set it up to check frequently, and in any case I don't need pull. Profimail costs money, but NM may not be free for long as Nokia says. Then, I discovered how to bypass restrictions imposed by me network on sending email through the native mailer, so I may stick with the native mailer after all. Thanks for the help. I really don't see why NM was designed to be so temperamental. Pity really.
