i don't understand why 5800 doesn't have widget support yet...
because the wat would the distinguishable difference be between the n97 and 5800 besides the appearance?. heck i own a 5800 and find my phone very delightful but i wuld want to go buy the n97 because it has more features than mine. so therefore widgets would be the n97's draw card for me
living in a field of dreams
so whe will it be avaible for 5800?
also waiting for support for the 5800xm

Hi All,
I can't comment on why the 5800 doesn't support widgets as that is way out of my area. As for our client, it is actually a lot of work to support even different s60 5.0 devices such as the 5800. At the bare minimum we have to switch SDK's and ensure that all of our 3rd party software still works properly. Having said that, none of these things are impossible obstacles. I can't comment on whether or not we will officially support the 5800, but I can say we have been investigating it.
Hi,
any good news for us 5800 users already?

I cannot make any promises but I think you will not be disappointed come next release of our client. (The decision of what we are going to officially release is far out of my hands which is why I cannot promise anything.)
When is the next release? Bton has previously stated it should be coming out in the next few weeks so cross your fingers.
Still waiting...
Hi Anrandad,
Currently almost all dev work has been completed and we are in a bug fixing/QA phase. Once QA is complete the project management team has to sign off and then we can release.
Best case I would say give it 3 more weeks, especially since this is a holiday week for those of us in the US.
Thanks Sean for the quick reply.
I'm from Indonesia, here nokia is really beaten by BlackBerry. The advantage which BB has is you get notification from native BB facebook app.
While the Ovi Contacts is trying to match the BB Messenger, which I think a bit too late, cause already lots of nokia users switch to BB, I still think a nokia native social networking app, that gives you notification, will even the competition a bit.
You've probably already know all of these, buy it gave me sort of satisfaction to write such of things in this forum :D
so 14th december? will it be released officially for 5800 XM?
Hi Gio,
I would say yes to official beta release for 5800 XM. I will stress the beta part though because I know there are at least a couple major bugs with the 5800 and our client that will not be fixed in time for the beta. I believe the biggest issue is that upload photo will not be supported for the 5800 as part of the beta release.
no uploading photos untill official release? then what functions will it have?
All those features that were marked as "Coming soon" for Facebook should now be in for the 5800 as well as the other supported Symbian 5.0 edition devices. We will give a more detailed list once the release notes are published on Monday.
I was actually able to get photo upload to work on my 5800, so it may depend on which firmware you are using whether or not you can use it. The device has a lot less memory than the N97 which appears to be causing us some problems with photo upload on the 5800's. We will not explicitly disable 5800 photo upload support.
thanks for the quick reply
how about other functions that use more ram and can not be added to 5800..which functions are like that?
Okay so there are four bugs I see open against the 5800 specifically:
1. Using Mini QWERTY keyboard will not decrease the text entry counter.
This is in my opinion a minor problem that has to do with limiting the number of characters you can type in the update status screen. It looks like the counter saying how many characters you have left will not decrease properly on the 5800 when using the mini keyboard.
2. Unable to upload photos.
This is just what I mentioned before. Honestly though I had no problem uploading multiple photos on my 5800. This is why I am wondering if it is related to firmware or how many applications you have running at once.
3. Some of the graphics may not look as good on the 5800. We use WRT and the WRT support on the 5800 just isn't as good as it is on other devices.
4. On some firmware versions of the 5800 you may get a warning message on installing stating that our client does not support the device you are trying to install on. This is just a silly error message having to do with variations in the 5800 devices by country and will not effect the actual use of the product. You can still install the client by hitting okay if it appears.
Besides this you shouldn't see any major loss of functionality in the 5800. Of course since this is a beta please report any issues you do find!
whats your 5800 firmware version? i have 31.0.101 i think that it should work fine right?and how many characters are avaible to type in status massage?
I have a 5800 running 31.2.101 and another one running 31.0.101. My non scientific testing showed that I could upload photos on both devices. Most of our QA is using a different firmware version which I can't mention. I would not be surprised if you run into issues running multiple applications at once and then trying to upload photos. My apologies if that does happen, but that is just the nature of the beast at the moment.
There is actually no character limit for Facebook but there is for the one other community we have added support for. (Not complete support though, sorry.)
31.2.101? where's that? I only see nokia is leaving us latin- and north- american customers out again as it happened with the n95-3 which was abandoned at 20.2.011
releasing for the 5800 one or 2 days earlier may help getting more / better feddback.... just an idea

I left my 5800's at work so I can't be 100% sure but I think the 31.2.101 was obtained via Nokia Software Updater for the European 5800 I have. Don't quote me on that, its very possible I just got the numbers confused. Unfortunately I won't be able to confirm until Monday.
Sorry I'd just get myself into trouble if I released the client early. :) I believe it is going to be released Monday at 10AM Finnish time. To be honest there are still a lot of bugs and I think the client still needs more features. Its definitely an improvement over our original beta but I hope we can start releasing on a better schedule so that new features come faster to beta labs users.
so whats that new comunity? myspace or what?
I am actually not allowed to say. You will have to wait for the Monday announcement.
ow ok...i'm waiting :)
