I do hope these services and apps will start working for (almost) all other S60-devices.
Having just bought the E71, I'm starting to feel pretty stupid, as new services and applications are offered to newer models. And the E71 isn't even a year old!

The E71 is based on the S60 3rd Edition Peature Pack 1 Platform and the E71x is based on the S60 3rd Edition Feature Pack 2 Platform .
To be honest most applications are designed around the Platform more than the Device. S60 3.1 is now becoming quite an old platform (although some of the devices using it are most excellent). The S60 3.1 platform does have limitations in certain areas when compared with the more recent S60 3.2 and S60 5 platforms. If you have the E71x your phone will be a future proofed for a little longer, as this is the latest non-touch S60 platform.

Just plain "E71". It would appear the business model for Nokia phones is to make them "old" and unsupported (for new features) by design. This might be my last Nokia phone... lets see how the landscape changes in a couple of years.
Still, I hope the developers will at least try to get Nokia Messaging for as many different models as possible.
Check back during the summer. More devices will be supported.
everyday I get more and more news and stories about nokia limiting its service. Only for limited models, free to only limited models, my E71 is getting unuseful, and I have decided to switch to blackberry, nevermind inferior finish or camera. Nokia, keep your course, to your doom, farewell.
Yep, As you would guess I own one 5800 and one E71. I would like to try the new software. I only hope that this product is a better IM client than OVI Contacts.

Hi!, finally Nokia entered on multiple services/communities im client contest. There are a few contestants, they are no beta at this point.
Well, i would like to suggest a few ideas this time.
IM capabilities:
1. Let the use have more than one account per service.
2. Let the IM client connect with Jabber accounts. I have an IM service in my company, and it would be great to have my corporate account on my phone.
3. Buzz option.
4. If the contact is offline, ask the user if the message should be sent over SMS. Have this as an option at the settings.
File sending capabilities
1. Let the user send any file, and also give the option of opening it once a file is received.
2. Have the option to open the camera, shoot a picture and send the file right away.
3. Let the client do both previous points on ANY of the services, not only OVI, that I guess should be the easier one.
Positioning and security
Let the user not only share the actual position, but a little history as well, a kind of path followed. The user should have the abilitie to share this "history" to some users. This feature could be borrowed and adapted from nokia sportstracker.
Well, that's all today...

Thanks for the suggestions. Some of these work in the E75 Beta today (for example, more than one account per service; jabber connectivity via Ovi; buzz (vibrate) notification option. The others are all good ideas for future versions.
just wondering when this application will be ready for e71 ?
thank you.
it works now on E71 (not E71x)
