Comment: Hi....I'm by anoopexpress for Bugreport: Nokia Music PC Client - Licensing Pop Up "Unable to get a license for the file."

Hi....I'm anoopexpress@yahoo.com. I'm encountering the same problem. While I can download songs from the Nokia music store, I'm unable to play them on my windows media player. Everything went without a hitch till a week back. When i now attempt to play the downloaded song, the windows media player looks to acquire the license to play it but fails. A window opens and says: The page you are looking for cannot be found. My computer technician says, after checking my system, that there is nothing wrong with the computer or the programmes running on it. He asked me to contact the Nokia team. Hence this frantic query. Please help me at the earliest.

I have downloaded a few tracks and all was going well but now when trying to download it's telling me i have an error so when i click on this,it tells me i am out of credits for downloading and if i want more, i have to buy more with a credit card. How can this be so if it's a free year?
I have gone over and over the paperwork and thier internet page and NOWHERE is there any reference to a limit on how much you can download. Is there actually a limit on a daily download limit or weekly lmit. If i have overlooked something with them i am sorry to trouble you but i can't get hold of them as they are closed and would like some advice asap if that's ok.
this has happened for the past couple of nights and being a bit of a fool i thought it was some technical problems but i now see this is not so. So can anyone please help ?
Kindest Regards

Comment: There is a known issue by mbrett for Bugreport: ITunes Plus Music does not play

If I remember correctly there is a known issue with a third party solution on the net. You may have to do a little googling or check the Nokia Discussion Foums for the solution. When I have more time I'll see if I can find the solution and e-post.

One option is to select all of your iTunes Plus files and teel itunes to convert these to AAC. AAC is a packaging type with different possibilities for the packaged contents. The Original iTunes Plus files are different to the converted versions although to you or me they appear the same. These ones should play though. Please try this a post if it works or not.

To be honest as Nokia Music PC Client has graduated it is now supported via the Nokia Discussion Forums and Nokia Care,

Bugreport: ITunes Plus Music does not play by NokiaN98

Nokia Music (on Vista):

Nokia Music (on Vista):
Most of my music collection is made up of mostly DRM-FREE 256 kbps AAC iTunes tracks. These are the new DRM-FREE ITUNES PLUS TRACKS, NOT THE OLD DRM TRACKS!!!! (Please take note of this because I know that the protected tracks cannot be played, but I am sure that my tracks are the iTunes Plus, DRM-free tracks). Every time I try to play these DRM-free tracks in the Nokia Music PC Application, the tracks are skipped through and do not play properly. (I do not mean like normally skipping, I mean that the tracks play for about 3 seconds each). I think this could be due to the 256 kbps bitrate of the AAC tracks. I hope that Nokia will be able to fix this bug in the next update.

This happens when you try to play DRM-FREE 256 kbps AAC (from iTunes).

Comment: PC Client working on a 5800... perhaps try again. by pauleaton for Bugreport: It is not compatible with the 5800 XpressMusic, which is a music phone.

Hi Antrikshy,

I've recently entered the musical world of the Nokia 5800 and "Comes With Music" and my PC and device are syncing fine so far. I'm currently running Version 1.2 of the Nokia Music PC Client, which for me auto updated (with prompt to confirm update).

It's also syncs while still playing audio in the PC Client. I haven't seen any hang yet.
I was also interested by your comment "Also, the Nokia Music site says that my 5800 isn't compatible."
That may have been the case in Feb '09, I'm not sure. However it certainly is listed now and works.

Give it another try, perhaps it was a bug and now is fixed... Good luck.

Regards,
Paul

Suggestion: Could the app recognize albums by dir structure? by IMAGINARY.FRIEND

Most of us have tons of music that has not been tagged the way MP3 palyers expect, but these files are neatly sorted in directories, filenames starting with track #.

I have tagged and tagged and tagged, but there is always something more coming in that needs to be tagged. It is a lot of work, just to be able to play the album.

I would eternally love any app which would let me drop a directory into my handset, recognizing that since it is a directory, its contents should be considered an album. This should be not too hard to do by having the app generate a playlist when the user drops a folder.

Pretty please!!!

Bugreport: The buttons are too slow (on an extremely slow app) by IMAGINARY.FRIEND

The Artists, albums, tracks buttons are very very slow. At least you should give processing priority for button re-draw so that the user can see that the button has been pressed.

As it is (on an 1.6GB Atom processor, which i use as my dedicated muysic server) nothing seems to happen when I click a button. So I click again, and as nothing happens still, I click on some other button... which eventually leads to SEVERAL buttons showing as selected and several of the sloooooow sorting operations being queued up.

Review: Surplus of Programs by karnival

I just started to discover the applications for my new Nokia device and I'm a little bit overextended with the range.

I use Nokia PC Suite to sync my E71 with the PC, backup my contacts, load my maps and update the firmware. All this works great.
But then I tried to put music on the device with the Nokia Music Manager and that was terrible, it didn't worked anyway - so I used WMP11 for the music sync.

When I spotted NOKIA MUSIC for PC, I got encouraged about this application. I really like the 'Nokia Style' the music player is great, better then iTunes or WMP, and the sync with my Nokia Device is naturally perfect. In alliance with the Nokia Music Store and a few improvements, Nokia Music (i call it Mokia:-) will be a fantastic answer on Apple. Keep it this way!!!

Now I installed the OVI PC SUITE and signed OVI.com and first I thought, this could be the 'Swiss Army Knife`, which replaces iTunes, WMP, picasa, PCSuite, NokiaMusic, Mail and all the other stuff of modern life.
But I'm not convinced anymore. The style of OVI reminds me of a games console, the 'task bar' is clearly to big, the menus are confusing, the sync isn't as good as with Nokia Music.

As a Nokia- addicted I hope you will continue on the integration of applications under one Ovi- roof and make this 'The Door' for Nokia-users, as you aim for. But make sure, that there is only one door and not a mess of programs without a constant design code.
I'll hang in there.

Comment: Fixed by pauleaton for Bugreport: Nokia Music PC Client - Licensing Pop Up "Unable to get a license for the file."

Update:
Again enjoying my Nokia Music Store "Unlimited Streaming".
Thanks to Nokia Care and the 'un-named nokia music team' for their assistance .

The fix: The 'relevant department' re-licensed the Nokia Music Streaming service on my account.

Summary: Not so much a Nokia Music PC Client bug. More of a "service" issue with back end servers perhaps not talking to each other. (This is of course just my speculation.)

Suggestion: The Nokia Music PC Client could have dealt with the error in a more intelligent way. As can be read in my initial post in this thread, I was caught in a 'loop'. In addition easier access, perhaps even via the software or "account" section of the service could provide links to more easily contact Nokia care.

Thank you.

Suggestion: The Nokia Music PC Client could have dealt with the error in a more intelligent way. As can be read in my initial post in this thread, I was caught in a 'loop'. In addition easier access, perhaps even via the software or "account" section of the service could provide links to more easily contact Nokia care.

Thank you.

Comment: Update: Chasing fault via Nokia care by pauleaton for Bugreport: Nokia Music PC Client - Licensing Pop Up "Unable to get a license for the file."

Here's an update for those who may be interested in this thread, or anyone looking for help with a similar problem.:

After noting the lack of activity in this Nokia Music PC Client forum (perhaps due to the development team busy rolling out more Nokia Music stores and "Comes With Music", or the next software update ;) I decided to try following this up via another contact method.

I contacted Nokia Care via a web form.. Afterall, this is a service that I'm paying for yet sorely missing right now. Got a quick response with a couple of questions to follow up on... what version of Windows Media Player etc.

Long story short.... Built a virtual machine running earlier version Windows XP SP2 without any extra patches and no other software installed except Nokia Music PC Client. Logged in, checked my Streaming subscription was set to ON. Same errors as orginally posted.

My best guess... due to 30 second samples playing and "vault" audio downloading and playing this looks like an authentication issue. Could it be that when a song is added to the playlist via the "Unlimited Streaming" button, it tries to download asking for DRM permission and fails.

Enough speculation on my part... the job via Nokia Care is being moved along the support chain.
Perhaps this isn't a Nokia Music PC Client Bug as such... however perhaps it's a Nokia Music "Service" bug?

Bugreport: Nokia Music PC Client - Licensing Pop Up "Unable to get a license for the file." by pauleaton

Bug Summary:
Nokia Music PC Client is unable to play "Unlimited Streaming" music.

After starting up the Nokia Music PC Client, logging in and after checking the 'My Account' menu to ensure 'Streaming:ON', I browse the online catalog successfully.
When adding a song to the playlist via the 'Play Using Unlimited Streaming' button the song adds to the 'Queue' and attempts to play. After a 30 second timeout the song in the Queue indicates the message " ! - Unable to get a license for the file. Make sure that you are connected to the internet."

Also a 'Pop Up' window titled "Licensing" appears showing an information splash page:
