There is an urgent need to protect data in OVI Suite. Anybody can just click short cut and open application to see my confidential data.
There has to be password protection for opening and application.

i think if you can protect your computer you don“t have got the problem ;)
as the person could also open any other files stored there
but a (optional) password protection would be nice
it would be nice.
i don't allow ovi to synchronise anything because of this problem.
On Blackberry Desktop Manager you have to enter Device password to access data and backup can be encrypted.
it should be the same for OVi.
If you are using only 1 user account on your system, then its your personal problem.
every user gets an own user profile. 1 of them has administrative rights, and the others are only simple users.
and i am sure that every user gets his own working diretory, so its not possible that user a can delete information from user b....

Hi, we're not planning password protection to Nokia Ovi Suite content in PC. This is job of the operating system to do. If your content is something which you don't want to anybody else to access, please use separate Windows profiles in your PC and keep the your password to your Windows profile safe and don't give it to anybody else.

with the greatest of respect that is nonsense.
are you telling me that there is no software on your computer that requires a password to access it after you have given the user account password? that if someone has access to your windows account then you are happy for them to roam through everything.
everything that is wrong with ovi suite comes from the fact that you (nokia) are telling people what they want and how they should use it. when, in fact, the process should be the other way around.
really there should be robust encryption. as it is it is trivial for another account on the computer to access the ovi suite data for another user. but a simple password option would be a good start.
i do appreciate you responding though.
Nigel, why would someone have access to your Windows account? If you don't want people accessing your data, don't let them use the PC while you're logged in!
well like i say you don't actually need access to the account, the data is available to other users quite trivially.
but my work computer for example. people have physical access to it all the time. and it's often logged in. a password before you could access any real data would be very useful to me. as it is my personal data is backed up for eternity with the rest of the system, with no encryption. i certainly don't want any new text messages popping up on the screen, but i would like alerts.
it's pretty standard stuff, of course personal data should be protected. nokia has never understood that phones are personal even when they are used in a work context. for example their new big screen presentation app. i can't use this how it was intended because it shows all your personal photos on the big screen as soon as you connect it via hdmi, with no way to stop it. not everyone uses their phones in the same way.
there is a really easy way to protect ovi suite for unauthorized use by other users.
just create different user accounts and set other user rights to the "nokiaovisuite.exe".
you can configure that only your account has the right to run this application. other user accounts doesnt have the right for change, read, run, write etc...
easy thing...

Nigel you have negated the need for password protection by stating that "people have physical access to it all the time. and it's often logged in" and "personal data should be protected." I'm guessing therefore you've chosen to bypass or ignore existing security measures which at home is acceptable, in a workplace however it is a different matter.
i've always thought ovi suite shd be password protected!!! especially the messages and photo's.. sometimes people leave their computers on/ have shared computers accessible to others, you can imagine someone going through your messages even when you're not there!!! nokia shdnt be talking about windows/ account protection, they should talk about ovi suite!! i keep waiting for password protection in nokia/ovi suite updates but get disappointed every time.. most of us have resulted to disabling 'synching' in ovi suite, iv personally even deleted the ovi icon from the desktop hoping no one is smart enough to look for it in programs...
nokia should do something!!!
