E71 bugs ending with MC format

I have an E71 updated with the new firmware with the following specs:

200.21.118
27-11-2008
RM-346
Nokia E71-1 (265.03)
8 GB SanDisk MicroSD
No encryption

I installed the photo browser and I loved it but some of my pictures showed only with grey boxes. I decided to wait for them to appear (I read that it might take some time) so I go to the Home screen and then tried to open some applications from the menu. To my surprise the shortcuts were not working - when I tried to open Office I got Google maps started, Download started Clock, I could not open Tools, etc. All was fine after restarting the phone.

I tried again and this time I had the file manager running before opening photo browser. I wanted to see if there was a problem with my pics and maybe that was the reason not to have them appear. After photo browser has been generating thumbnails for some time I switched to file manager to browse the files missing a thumbnail. When I went to the Memory card tab I saw many folders which had strange names consisting of letters, digits and symbols. I could not open any of them as well as the other "normal" folders some of which were missing. All was fine after restarting the phone.

It was after 3 or 4 more restarts that I saw my programs' shortcuts were missing from the home screen and I realized that the memory card cannot be read anymore (tried on PC as well). So a quick format and uninstall for photo browser fixed it all.

I liked the application very much and I will be happy to install it again if I do not have to format my memory card :).

Thanks for the bug report. E71 is one of the devices we're testing with. And we have never seen something bizzare like this. I've just now tried co-launching the file manager and NPB but couldn't reproduce the problem. There could have been some unfortunate timeing on the shared resource (e.g, Jpeg decoder) but that shouldn't break the microSD card. Another possibility is the microSD card happened to be a faulty one -- could you try another microSD card if you had one around.

Thank's for the answer. Maybe it is the MC. I will try with the original 2GB and let you know how it goes.

Just installed the program again on my 2GB MC. There are gray boxes but they started filling in. In File Manager there are no strange names of folders and the menu shortcuts work fine. Seems OK

Just want to try installing it in the Phone memory. Works again.

Final test, change the MC. Everything is fine.

So the conclusion is: Nokia Photo Browser now works fine on my E71.

Note: I am not sure if I have been using the old firmware when I got the problem in the first place.
