Thumbnails get lost on N97

Hi First of all, Photo Brower is a wonderful concept and browsing pictures this way is fun and impressiv. However, my N97 seems to "loss" the cached thumbnails after some time. I already loaded (or waited for the N97 to load) the Thumbnails 3 times. Often after starting the Photo Browers an hours later the thumbnails have been present. But after a day or so if I start the Photobrower all thumbnails are gone and just the grey box are present. This is a bit frustrating and I really hope you get this fixed soon. Thank you

Hi,

If you're seeing the gray box (instead of wire frame), you may not be using the latest version. Please try downloading the binary from our Beta labs page and see that solves your problem.

If the problem is not solved, please check if the thumbnail has been actually created. You can do that by opening the image. If it shows clear picture (instead of very blur image), the thumbnail had been created. Also, please check how much free space you have in the disk. If the image is saved in the miniSD, please check the free space in miniSD. If it is phone memory, please check the phone memory.

OK, I installed the latest version (0.9.5.). The effect is similar

- yes, the thumbsnails have been colllected and have been displayed properly once
- after a day or so (or maybe restarting the N97) the thumbnails are gone und just empty frames appear, PhotoBrower would now start to collect the thumbnails again
- clicking a frame will open the pic correctly
- the pics are on drive e: (N97 mass storage) and there is 10.3GB free memory
- the pics in folder pictures/camera do allway show correctly and the thumbnail do not get lost
- as I use Multimedia transfer to upload pics from my Mac, most of the pics are in folder pictures/iPhoto, the prpblem only concerns these pictures

Hi,

I have installed the version 0.9.5 on my N97, and I also have the bug with the thumbnails which don't seem to be saved in memory :-(
Each time I start NPB, it regenerates all the thumbnails, which take a very long time (I have more than 1200photos...)
I have a lot of space on my memory storage (more than 20Gb free), et more than 30Mo free in the n97 memory.

Except this bug, the program is excellent !!

Hi,

So it happens only with the folder created for iPhoto transfer. We'll try to reproduce the problem when we have chance. Honestly, we don't know how it works with the multimedia transfer on mac.

Could it have been the case the thumbnail disappeared each time after you uploaded the file to the phone? Then the multimedia transfer probably has erased the thumbnails (in the hidden folder "_PAlbTN") so to "synchronize" the content of the folder.

For now, please try copying the images to some other folder created with some other method -- e.g., using Nokia Phone Browser or just copying the file to the microSD mounted with card reader?

In fact, it's perhaps a problem depending on where the photos are saved on the "mass storage" of the n97?
I have put my photos on E:/Images/Photos2009/dir1 ... dir2... dir3...

It seems the n97 have some difficulties to write thumbs with NokiaPhotoBrowser,
it takes a verey very very long time to generate the thumbs...
With the photo viewer of the n97 it's really faster..

Or am I the only one to have this pb ?

Im having the same problem as other N97 users here. Each time NPB is launched it re-generates the thumbnails for images that it generated thumbnails for previously. It's time consuming and is a serious flaw in an otherwise amazing and great app. Please try to fix soon...and dont abandon this beta!

My appologies, TroisSix. I didn't notice your reply until now. Have you tried copying iPhoto folder content to another folder? Right now, my guess is that the media transfer application is doing something funny while synchronizing the folder content (as explained in my previous post).

nikhil.fernandes , are you also using the iPhoto media transfer? Are you having the same problem with all images you have in N97? How about the ones taken with camera? Honestly, this phenomena is something not understandable for us unless there is some other software erasing the thumbnail generated.

I'm a Windows user, all my photos are loaded via PC suite (drag n drop) or copying via Explorer directly to the phone mass memory. My problem is not one of gray boxes but of blurry thumbnails in multi-image view. They always remain heavily pixelated. I have read through the instructions thoroughly, and have left the phone alone, so it can load unpixelated thumbnails for all my images. However after loading proper clear thumbnails for the currently visible set of images the remaining ones are ALWAYS blurred. In other words it only has proper thumbnails for the set of images currently on screen, the images to the left or right (or top or bottom, depending on the screen orientation), are blurred. After scrolling to a new set of pictures the app clears up the thumbnails for the new set of visible images, and loses the clear thumbnails of the previous set. In other words, if you scroll back to the set of images you just viewed, you see all blurred previews again. So its a no win situation. Being an ex-N95 user, Im used to the whole thumbnail generating, low-res stage, but the gallery used to keep its high-res thumbnails once generated, NPB does not. There is also a slight delay while scrolling from one image to another in single image view, as the image is converted from a low-res sample, to its full resolution. The standard photos app on the N97 doesnt seem to exhibit the same problems as NPB. Thumbnails are always clear after being generated for the first time and scrolling from one image ot another in single image view is seamless and there are no blurred previews. I hope I do not sound too complain-ish, maybe these problems are already known and being addressed as I type this. I like this app alot, and I commend the developers for bringing it to us. Just hope that since the standard photo app on the N97, doesnt have these bugs, the NPB, will at one point not have them too. I definitely want to switch over to NPB as my standard photo viewer, I do use it to kill time, I do use it to show my friends my photos, and yes sometimes I just click pics coz, they would look cool in NPB ;-)

Oh and this applies to both pics loaded from my computer AND those taken from the camera.
