Grouping vids and pics on folder basis

Although suggestions about grouping were mentioned in several ways in different threads before, I'd like to add a short and hopefully precise suggestion.

As far as I understood, present stage is:
Adding a single popup-menu option for some functions and improve viewing functions like zoom and to add a way to group the pics.

For grouping it could be good to simply group by folders and add add the option "group/all" as menu option.
If you solve it this way, it would be easy to add the video-folders as groups and use the video preview pics for it.

Of course there has to be the "open" function in menu.

Folders are allready existent and is the most common way for users to sort their pics.
The "open" functions are standard defined for all file-types. So all further functions would be made by Realplayer for vids and gallery for pics.

So it should not be tooo difficult to program this by using as much of exsisting standard functions and structures of the system as possible.

This is very important. Now the photo browser is only a toy and not a tool. Sorry but we have 8 GB memory for thousands of pictures. It makes no sense to put these pictures on only one page. I have about 1.400 pictures i want to carry on my phone. Please do not look only at copying the iphone style.

Yes i second that. There is option to create 'invisible' album, but having folder style is the best

Why not have the folders displayed as part of the grid? ie one thumbnail for a picture, then in the next spot, a thumbnail for a folder appears - you zoom into it in the same way you do to zoom a picture, and it opens another grid onscreen containing photos / videos within that folder. Zooming into a vid plays it, zooming out of a grid returns to previous folder.

Another idea could be having backgrounds under different sections of the grid to denote folders / albums etc, and labels could sit just below the thumbnails, kind of in the same way the year labels in a timeline sit below the events for that year. selecting / scrolling these thumbnails would autoscroll to the next folder - nested folders within folders displayed this way could themselves be displayed as above in the first option...
