This concept could make a much more compelling UI than the traditional S60 or even N97 (awful) displays.
Instead of pictures every single icon representing an application or setting currently available in the phone could be displayed this way grouped near each other by functional area or usage. touching or selecting would activate.
This removes the menu hierarchy and replaces it with an organised flat view of the world which is easy to navigate. It could potentially be tabed if the view becomes too extended.
Ideally the user could move the icons around the tableau to suit there own way of organising the features of the UE. Clustering social networking in one area, messaging/email in another, multimedia yet another.
