Image on the 2D barcode viewer icon is as per web shortcut

Bugreport for Nokia Point and Find

The icon on the N97 Point and Find client for the 2D barcodes appears like the barcode on the Betalabs Point and Find Application page. I therefor installed Point and Find and pointed my N97 camera at the Point and Find application page on the Betalabs site only to be told "no data".

I was hoping that point and find was going to operate as a 2D barcode reader like the one destinctly missing from S60v5 Nokia Devices. Presently it appears not.

Hi mbrett, long time no talk... :)

I just tried used my N97 to read the 2D barcode on our blog post, and was redirected to a search result page with "Seasons greetings" as keyword, which is what we had hoped would happen. I also checked that this was working on the N95 too, and it does... My config is different than yours though, and I've reported your experience to our R&D team.

Been quitely waiting for the S60v5 version to release for my N97. Also been a little quite as looking for a job as department being closed.

Tried the pointing Poitn and Find at a printed version of the 2D barcode and also tried with the 2D barcodes over at http://nokiamobiletalk.com

Sorry to say, no joy with any of them. In fact the camera never appears to lock on focus. I never get the boxing that I used to see with the Nokia Barcode Reader on S60v3 phones. Nokia has, of course, never released an updated version of the 3D barcode reader for s60v5 phones. I assume the lack of focus lock could be the real issue. It's fine when using the standard phone app, but does not lock in Point and Find.

Any ideas.

Thanks for the useful feedback. Would you be willing to anwer a few questions to help us understand where we failed to deliver on your expectations?

If yes, thank you! Here are the questions :
- When you used the application, were you in the "2D barcode world', i.e. did it say "2D barcode" at the top of your screen? Could you see a solid white rectangle in the middle of the screen (solid, not a dotted line rectangle)?
- Did you ever get a link on the right of the screen that says "click to open" ? Did you ever get any message on the screen?
- Did you fit the barcode exactly in the rectangle?
- The first barcode you mentioned, was it the one in the blog post ?(http://betalabs.nokia.com/blog/2009/11/23/updated-nokia-point-find-real-... )
- You mentionned the barcodes in http://nokiamobiletalk.com . Are you refering to the ones labelled "NMT RSS", etc... ? Did you point to them on the screen, or in printed format? If on the screen, what is the type of monitor you are using (resolution, size)?
- We would need to make sure what version of the application you are using. A new one was uploaded on 11/23. Can you look at the application manager and tell us what version you see there for "Point & Find"?

A1a - Yes.

A1b - No. There was no rectangle at all.

A2b - When I tap on the screen I get the message "no data". This is the only message I get.

Q3 - Did you fit the barcode exactly in the rectangle?
A3 - The rectangle never appeared, but I did try with the a barcode filling the screen and with the bar code at about 3/4 full visible height.

A4 - Yes. I even tried printing the barcode form the blog and trying with that, with no joy. Same problem.

A5a - Yes.

A5b - I only tried to point to these on screen.

A5c - I was using a 24" wide screen LCD monitor set to 60Hz, 96dpi and 32 bit colour quality.

A6 -I am using Point & Find v1.49(7941) on a N97 (Product Code: 0585262) which is branded to Vodafone UK, for which the latest FW is 12.0.026. (Still waiting for v20 FW to release for this product code).

Hi there im having exactly the same problems on an N97 Mini. I thought I would chime in and add my details if it helps thing - they are all pretty much the same a mbretts except for this:

Q6 - We would need to make sure what version of the application you are using. A new one was uploaded on 11/23. Can you look at the application manager and tell us what version you see there for "Point & Find"?
A6 -I am using Point & Find v1.49(7941) also but on an N97 mini which says type :RM-555 on the Orange network (UK).
This phones software version is: v10.0.020 (custom version: 10.0.020.220.02)

Thanks a lot for all the info, that is very helpful. I think the interesting fact here is that you didn't see a rectangle (A1b).

I would like to ask you one more question to narrow it down:
Look at the banner at the top of your screen, did it
- show only the icon on the left and the "2D barcodes" text next to it?
- show five icons and the "2D barcodes" text under it?

For me when I first start the program up I get 5 icons at the top with text under it (starting on the last option I tried - shopping in this case).
It stays this way until I press something, like the down button for example, where it changes to just 1 icon on the left and with writing next to it. When it changes to this, a square satellite icon with a red cross in the top right corner very quickly appears and disappears.

I am having the same problem; I don't get any rectangle in my screen. Also, and I am not sure whether that is right, only the top part of my screen is used for my camera. To be on the save side, I tried this with both the 5 icons on top and clicking so just having 1 on the top left.

I am using a Nokia E51 (latest firmware, 400.something, can look it up if required) and I downloaded the app after the blogpost, so I assume I have the 23/11 version.

A7b - Initially it shows all five icons, but this changes to one icon in the top left corner once I have selected one.

Just noticed that for City Guide and Movies I get a rectangle/square, but for 2D barcode and shopping I don't. Of course there is no rectangle/square on Add/Remove World and I would not expect one.

All the behaviors described here by mbrett, hhubheerink and GarethJB84, are normal and make sense, except the behavior of not displaying a rectangle for 2D barcodes and not recognizing barcodes. We are currently working on that issue.

mbrett, Gareth, one more question:

Once you have selected the 2D barcodes and have only the 2D barcode icon at the top left, you still didn't see a rectangle?

That is the same for me, I still dont see a rectangle when the 2d barcode icon is in the top left of the screen

The new version of Point & Find (released today)v1.50 (8624) works correctly on my N97 for 2D barcodes. Problem solved.
