Frequently asked questions
Who can add new people to a group?
Nokia Pulse is meant to be used by family and close friends for private conversations. So, anyone in your group can add a new member. Once someone is added, they can send and receive updates and photos, invite someone new, or change the name of the group.
Who can remove people from group?
Much like adding someone to the group, anyone in a group can remove another group member as well. In the list of group participants, click/tap on the group member's name (on the Symbian client you must long-press the group member's name), then select the remove option. The action of removing a group member will get announced to the group in the feed, so make sure you have a good reason!
How do I leave a group?
After clicking/tapping your name in the list of people in the group (on the Symbian client you must long-press your name), select the leave option. Leaving a group will remove any activity from the "Latest Updates" page, and stop all notifications from the group. You won't have access to the group or have the ability to have conversations with the group members. To join the group again, another active group member will need to add you back in.
Does sign-in with Facebook credentials mean my Nokia Pulse data is less private?
No. Nokia Pulse will not share any data to Facebook. Using Facebook credentials is a convenience for sign-in so you don't have to create Nokia account credentials.
How do I turn off notifications?
There are two types of notifications supported by Nokia Pulse. Firstly, there are email notifications of new activity, which you can manage separately for each group on the Windows Phone and web clients. To turn on or off email notification, check the settings from your client. Secondly, on the device clients there is also a push notification setting which controls whether updates are sent directly to the device client. This setting also controls Toast and Live Tile updates on the Windows Phone client.
Why can't Nokia Pulse find my location?
If you are using the Nokia Pulse web client, finding and sharing your location may not be supported by your browser. In addition, you'll need to allow Nokia Pulse to find your current location if prompted. However, if you are behind a firewall or network proxy, we might not be able to accurately determine your location. If you are using a Nokia Pulse device client, we will use GPS where possible, however enabling wifi on your phone may help improve location finding.
What if I do not want to share my location?
If you are using the Nokia Pulse web client, your browser may prompt you to confirm whether or not you want to share your location with Nokia Pulse. On web and Windows Phones, you can disable location sharing on a per-group basis through the client settings. On the Symbian client you can disable location sharing for all groups through the client settings. Lastly, if you want to disable location sharing just for a single post, you can do that too; on the device clients just tap the location and pick the choice to not share, and on the web clients just pick the 'x' to remove the location tag.
