But I have a 5800
Any ideas??
Found this at another forum
The solution I've found was to delete the file memorycard:/stepcounter/config.dat
You will need to input your personal data again.
Someway the file gets corrupted....
If that doesn't work after deleting the config.dat file, try uninstalling and reinstalling, that should do the trick
it works!!!
Thank you to rmarcus for your reply.
I was recently able to reinstall the application. I am not sure exactly why I could not do so before, but my best guess is that, despite completely removing the app and deleting all the associated files I could find (including the config.dat file), I may have still had a shortcut to this program in the multimedia menu. I cannot be sure that this was the problem because I cannot remember exactly if I deleted this shortcut before or after my last post, but in any case if anybody else experiences this issue it is probably worth checking this.
It could be your FW. On my N95 with the last release NSC works fine.
But if you will update it, you could loose some data and reinstall a lot of apps. When I updated the phone from the version 30 to 31, I loosed the calendar, I made the backup before but it PC did not restore it.

The error shows when you enable autostart.
You can configure your settings/profile, except autostart, then exit and use file manager to organize - copy to folder the config.dat as a backup.
Then try enabling autostart - even with default times, and you will get the error.
Then use filemanager to delete the config.dat and browse to the backup you made and use the organize - copy to folder again to get it working.

I was also experiencing this problem while on vacation last 2 weeks in Costa Rica. Tried everything mentioned in this forum and none worked. As soon as I got back to Canada everything started working again. I did have my access points pointing to invalid domains so that I would not get hit with data charges. Not sure if this could be related or not.
Same problem on a XM5800 after a week or 2 of usage without problem
Reboot the phone did not help, nor did uninstall / reinstall
Even after uninstall / delete config.dat / reinstall, the same symptom appears
after completely clearing the "stepcounter" folder, I could get it restarted. I suppose the last .dat file might have been corrupted. I have kept it if somebody in the dvpt crew wants to take a look at it
well....same error here but I'm sure that I deserve it hehehee
I tried it on a Nokia E66-1.
Installation was fine but when trying to start it...."unable to start engine. exiting."
That means I will have to wait for a compatible version.

You need to delete a file in order for step counter to start working again I have forgotton the name of this file and my 5800 has gone for repairs so i'm unable to check it ,I had posted this same problem on the nokia support page u guys should check it out.
I have a 5800 and even uninstalling the program and deleting the \Step Counter\ folder on both Main Memory and the External Card and then reinstalling I still get the error.
Any more clues ?
Please release a 5800 compatible version.. Please?
It seems that only the Auto Start option doesn't work and causes the "Unable to start Engine" error.
Please, Beta Team, fix the Auto Start for S60v5.
I had a similar app running on Sony Ericsson 580i (standard app there!) and I am so used to it (just switched to 5800 2 weeks ago)
