Cannot start chat session

Nokia N97 NAM Black/S60 5th Edition
v 11.2.021

Trying to start a chat session with a friend. Status for both users is 'Available'. Tap twice on friend's name in contact list and "word bubble" appears to indicate that a chat session is open, however, no chat window opens to allow me to type messages.

Clicking 'Options -> Chat' has no result

Clicking 'Options -> End chat' has no result

Signed out and signed back in, no change. Bug still occurs.

if i install the newest nokia messaging from sw update from my n97. than the chat function dosnt work. i can than uninstall it and it works again. now i only have the problem where chat sometimes don
