I think it qualifies as a bug, albeit a low priority one.
When a message comes from somebody (or something ;)) who is not on the roster (yes, it is possible!), it's hard to figure how to read it. It does not show up anywhere until you open a chat with anybody else. Only then you can see the message in a separate tab.
