Where is OVI Contacts 1.20 for N97????????

OVI Contacts for N97 shows on Software Update on my N97, but install fails.

It does not appear on the website and my phone bugs me every time I start OVI Contacts to update and it fails. I need the install file or another source for the download.

Please help.

All I am after is the ability to update to the new version of the client for my N97.

I shows in Software update, but the install fails.

Just want the dev team to make it available here or via server.

If via the server they can still limit to N97 only via the hardware id check on connect to the server. Just want teh upgrade. Fed up of OVI COntacts telling me that there is a newer version, that I can't install, available every time I log in.

Of course if somenoe knew where a copy was on net even that would suffice in the interim.

You've made the application for the N97. I've got the N97. Why can't I have the app. It's free after all. ;-)

I have the same problem on my n97 sometimes the ovi conacts it self says there is an update and sometimes the SW Update app says so. I've reported this as a bug here: http://betalabs.nokia.com/forum/topic/3808

As I understand one can only install the ovi contacts on the n97 via pc so it's odd they have not provided an updated version for download. And yea I agree it's so anoying with the constant software update pop up, that I can't do anything about...

Some have managed to install OTA via Software Update, but it failed on mine and now it will not download. Goes straight to install and then fails. I believe that either Software Update believes it has already downloaded the install file or has downloaded a corrupt install file.

Hopefully Nokia Tech Support should be phoning me thsi evening. I'll post back tomorrow with an update.

First, thanks for all of you for this feedback and sorry that it took such a while to respond.

Speaking on behalf of the dev team, we've identified an issue in the version numbering, which causes this issue to emerge. The SW Update has been set to use version numbering than differs from the current Ovi Contacts beta-release numbering, which confuses the phone. Thus, the 1.20 update suggested by SW Update is in fact no newer than the latest release in Beta Labs.

This problem with the versioning will be fixed in our next betalabs release. Before that, please bear with us and sorry for the inconvenience.

That clears up the issue.

As mentioned in the other post After doing a hard reset of my phone (*#7370#) I managed to wipe all Software Update data and install OVI Contacts 1.20. At least it won't bug me again about a newer version being available until the next update appears. If the Software Update version numbering and Betalabs version numbering are made the same then this should be solved in future.

One thing to mention is that the next version will need to be higher than 1.20 as I am aware of others having issues with Software Update if they have a higher issue number than the latest one when a new version is released. i.e. Nokia Betalabs numbering needs to be changed to Software Update numbering and not vice verca.

You're right about the version numbering. I was told this would be done exactly so.

If the Software Update v1.20 version and the betalabs 1.01 beta version are the same, why is the v1.20 version over 2MB when the 1.01 beta version is c.600kB?

this is because Ovi Contacts Beta Labs version contains only English translation whereas SW update contains translations for all languages.

Right, who is responsible for all that crap? Who is the guy who doesn't places the localized version in beta labs but in Software Update? Can you please fire him and get someone with more knowledge?

You should take a look at sourceforge.net ... the software running there doesn't allow the same version numbered with different version numbers.

You should also merge all the stuff together. Some downloads are only available via Software Download, some only via the "Download!" application, some only via Ovi Store and some only via the PC version of the Nokia.com website. Thats totally annoying.
