Bugreport for Ovi Maps 3.0 Beta for mobile

I recently installed the Nokia Maps Updater 1.0.12 and used it to install Maps 3 on my E71. The software installed OK and removed the old maps, but when it started uploading the new maps I was forced to cancel the installation because I had to leave with my phone and it would have taken too long. I also had problems with NokiaMServer.exe, the Ovi Suite and unrelated 3rd party software crashing while I was running the updater but I find it unlikely that this affects the current problem described below.

Now that I try to run the maps updater again, it always says "Another instance of Nokia Maps Updater or Nokia Map Loader is already running." and refuses to start. I have rebooted the system, uninstalled the software and reinstalled it, removed obvious related keys from the registry (searched for "NokiaMaps") and nothing seems to help. Is there a lock file I need to delete or a process I have to kill to get it running?

Same problem. I just found this: http://discussions.europe.nokia.com/t5/Maps-Navigation-and-GPS/Unable-to... Apparently you should *not* use the PC Suite but exclusively the OVI Suite. Select: View>Go to>Maps.

Ah. From the OVI Suite you must Update to install a new Maps app, which will then install new maps onto your cell phone. It is taking some time ....

Hi onierstrasz, I couldn't find a place to update/install the Maps app from the Ovi Suite. I can only see Ovi Suite and device software updates in the Updates tab and only maps for countries and voice guidance languages in the Maps tab. Where in the software can you install apps?

Ok, the problem went away. After the newest update to Ovi Suite the Maps application appeared in the software updates tab. The Maps 3.0 definitely works a LOT better than 2.0. Before it took 5 minutes to find my location even in online mode but with Maps 3 it's practically instant.
