Multiple problems with Ovi Maps 3.01 09 (latest version available to me) N97 10.0.012

I just upgraded from an earlier version of Maps 3 to this finished one. The earlier version was riddled with some of the problems below, but since updating, things have become much much worse. Even with nearly full satellite signal my speed, though constant in the car on an open road, changes from 0 to the actual speed randomly. Sometimes the red position arrow procedes off the top of the screen and I continue to get directions but the map is not moving. Often my position is shown as on another road nearby (not necessarily running parallel) and I receive instructions that are incorrect as a result. Sometimes I am shown as going backwards, and told to turn around. The satellite signal drops to zero and then back up to nearly maximum on open road with and without moving. This causes a spoken warning that signal is lost and then another one that it has returned, repeatedly. When tracking my travel as opposed to following a route, the compass is active but the map does not rotate correctly. When stationary, my position jumps about causing route recalculation statements. This software is worse than useless for route mapping. Unlike Mpas 2 on E71, I cannot rely on it for even simple routes - I end up taking wrong turnings all the time. Thanks

ive seen many of these issuses myself.

I've observed similar failures. It's some sort of new code in Maps 3 that allows it to track position using multiple methods, but frequently leads it to ignore good GPS data in favor of incorrect data. It was reported long ago and is still unresolved, and couldn't really be much more serious.
I've been standing still with a clear view of the sky while watching it repeatedly skip between roughly correct position (inaccuracy probably caused by snap to road), 6-7 satellite fix, and way off (several kilometers) with no satellites. It combines with some sort of direction deduction code instead of GPS measurements to decide you're going in random directions, which would reasonably be related to the problem of snapping to roads in other directions. The road snap feature itself is suspect, as it's wholly inappropriate *unless* you're in a car.and prevents several usage scenarios (where'd I put my car? why, *next to* the parking lot, of course).

I'm quite surprised the maps 3 device app is out of beta labs. Much less reliable than the previous shipped version, imho.

I have just downloaded Ovi maps 3.0 for my E71. I have encountered all the same problems as Grouch.
The gps signal cuts in and out with frustrating regularity. I keep being told that there is no GPS signal when I am getting 5 solid bars on the satelite staus in the GPS data function
I found the old Nokia maps to be up to date and highly accurate. The Auckland city maps on 3.0 are up to 15 years out of date. Many major metropolitan roads are not even shown and the complete software and funtionality package is worse than useless. Very disappointing all round.
Interested to know if it is just me or is this a widespread problem.
