Sorry Kee but I still get the error 18 when trying to uppgrade to maps 3.0 - component is built in
Have N82 - lastest firmware.
After so many months (half a year?) of no progress there is another beta and I even cannot install it on N82 (same as previous beta) - "Component is build in - cannot install". This is ridiculous!!! Now that iPhone is going to have navigation (real navigation from TomTom and Navigon) I think I will finally switch and be done with this...
I have suffered the same however also experienced N82 success on another handset, fully reset and running the latest firmware. I wonder if this is an issue that might only be resolved via a firmware update as opposed to fixing Ovi Maps 3. It would appear that once Nokia Maps 2.0 has been run at least once on the N82, it's hands off!
I have the same problem when I tried to install it on my 6210 Nav (with latest fw). How annoying.
I would like to have the opportunity to fulle delete maps 2.0 from my phone and then have the option to reinstall 2.0 or uppgrade to maps 3.0. Currently there is no way to access the program. It doesnt appear in the list over installed programs. A fix that deletes maps 2.0 may be the solution.
The reason you can't delete Maps 2 is probably because Maps to is supplied within your phone's present firmware and is not a software add-on.
I say probably as I do not know what phone you are using.

Yes. This phone and firmware combination has Nokia Maps 2 installed in it's firmware.
All you can do is the qf file and cities folder delete, Maps restart and re-install the latest version of Nokia Maps 2.0 to replace the firmware version and then upgrade this to OVI Maps 3 if you wish.

Mbrett - I dont understand. I deleted cities folder and qf - file. Restarted maps and tried to install
Nokia_Maps_2.0_4503_3.1_u.sis which is the latest maps 2.0. But i get the f..... same message "component is build in". Am I missing something?
As posted by snowy here (comment 22):

"Msg to Kee and everyone.
I am not 100% for fp1 but for fp2 here is the solution:
Memory card: Delete, folder "cities".
Delete file "qf"
Use Nokia Maps updater, install.
Open application then close it.
Upload maps."

It seems like i cant install the latest sis file for maps 2.0. Why - I dont know, but it is bugging me big time. I really hopi the Beta team can fix this. http://nds1.nokia.com/files/support/global/phones/software/Nokia_Maps_2....
Is it possible to simply delete the map 2.0 altogether (instead of deleting part of it and seek for an update via Nokia Map Updater) and download/install the new map 3.0 directly via the latest version of Nokia Map Loader?

that they are aware of this spesific issue with N82 and Nokia Maps 3.0 and that they will fix it in a future release. . I would really like to be able to use the program.
I hope i can use 3.0 on 6210 Nav as well.
I had a similar issue when trying to re-load the most up-to-date Maps 2.0 (Nokia_Maps_2.0_4503_3.1_u.sis) on my N82 after flashing to the V31 firmware. My phone's current info is:
V31.0.016
09-12-08
RM-313
Nokia N82 (51.01)
Prior to trying OM 3.0, I re-flashed the phone and did a hard reset (*#7370#). I also reformatted my memory card. I was able to successfully install OM 3.0, but had issues with the map files not being complete.
After deleting the Cities folder and qf file from the memory card, I was able to successfully install Maps 2.0 4503 build onto the phone without the component built-in message. I suspect, but can't say for sure, that the hard reset after the re-flash helped with this issue. I also did not load anything else back onto the phone prior to loading Maps, and re-installed everything from scratch instead of using the Backup utility. I know that is extreme and a lot of effort, but it seemed to work for me.
Error with Ovi Maps Loader 3.0 after removing sis files on N82 in Map Overige and Hoofdmap in device memory and cardmemory.
Sis files removed: S60_3_1_v_2_0_2402_u.sis and idem 2_0_4503_3_1_u.sis
(also called beta 5)
Firm- and software fully up to date. System legally purchased in The Netherlands.
Goal updating NM2.0 to OM3.0 ( beta version from 2009
Forgot to mention my device is a N82 fully up to date in firm- and software. Using Windows xp on my PC - fully up to date too. For this time I would already be happy to recover the old situation - Maps 2.0. I'd better forgetabout ever having Maps 3.0 on my N82. Maybe Nokia just want's me to buy a newer model of their phones. A disappointed customer.
I waited for this new beta release hoping they would fix this problem. Went ahead and did the hard reset after I saw that it was still a problem. Very disappointing... flickering text, blank screens. And this is supposed to be close to graduating to a full release???
Having followed instructions to install maps3 and found that it freezes phone after a few seconds of use I have tried to go back to maps2 as instructed on download page. The links to the map loader here seem to take you back to the maps3 loader. I have tried this and previous map loaders I used succesfully in the past to no avail. The program seems to have loaded ok but the map loader does not recognise as being valid. Help! I'm screwed, or rather my phone is!
When starting Maps Loader 3.0 I got the long error report on my PC (see my above long list).
At some point I downloaded the latest MapsLoaderSetup version 12.0.058851 (39.1Mb) and let it repair defect files.
After that my error 18 report had left and I could go to the next step. See the next issue..
At some point in the quest I started from a clean starting point on my N82. The memory card was formatted and a hard reset done (*#7370#).
OM3 was fully installed and working on N82, but then came the next issue which finally forced me to go back to NM2.
After having installed OM3, I had to download the maps with Maps Updater 1.06 Which worked with a small inconvenience. When I choose Europe Maps as a whole, afterwards the N82screen did not show The Benelux, North East France, Germany and so on, as if it wasn't loaded. It showed white maps. After loading the separate maps of the above mentioned countries, they where there and working. Iwas delighted and 'jumped a hole in the air'.
The OM3 icon was there and the qf file was stated the 3.0 version.
Now comes the bad part: after putting back the backup file made WITHOUT the memory card part, OM3 wouldn't come up anymore. No matter what I tried and starting the whole process again considering the cities en qf issue, it simply refused to start up. The loading bar of Maps 3.0 only came up till 50% and then the process stopped.
Everytime after going through the same procedure at first Maps 3.0 seemed to work fine, after putting back my backup it doesn't start anymore! For the record I also tried to restore my memory card - manually (I don't see how to do this automatically), but that didn't solve the inconvenience.
So far I hope the Maps Team has a useful clue (tip, hint) to kill this problem.
I ended up going back to Nokia Maps 2.0 official version and installed my backup file. In this Maps 2.0 My Places are empty now?! but History is, thank God, filled. An unexpected side effect.
I had the choice of having OM3 up and running without my old backup data or restore the old situation, which I did.
Regards Happy Meal.
Wrongly interpreted the flagmode.

I experienced this after upgrading to OM 3.0, so i did the whole "hard reset" procedure over again and this time only putting back messages, pictures and some other stuff. I didnt restore user settings and other third party applications that i had on the phone prior to the first hard reset.
OM3 works fine now.
Hi Emrossel,
How can you cut the backup file into pieces so as to leave some parts out?
Could you save your ringtone and startingscreen plus background?
Anyways it is a cumbersome road we have to go to get on with OM3!
Thanks, Happy Meal
I used Nokia content copier when restoring. Then you have the following options
User files from phone memory - this i didnt restore
User files from memory card - this i didnt restore
Contacts - restored
Calender and notes - restored
Messages - restored
Settings - This i didnt restore
Bookmarks - restored
So ringtones, themes, background and more i didt restore.
But all in all i wasnt that bad. I god rid of some stuff that wasnt all that useful, and my phone is faster now, and that is good.
Hi mr Kee and the Nokia Maps Team.
Will there be a final OM3 version soon? And if so, will the install procedure on e.g. Nokia N82 be smoothened?
May we expect another firmware update to realise this?
Happy to meet you,
Happy Meal
