Quite the same here: Can not install because some component already installed!
The phone is N82(0.3.01), RM-313, V 31.0.016, 09-12-08, FIN and Maps 2.0 already installed.

I am using the latest PC suite and Maps Updater. Also tried deleting qf and cities.

Trying to upgrade from Maps , about says "v 2.0 wk30 b04 OpenGL LM MN".

But reinstalling v2.0 does not work either! It displays the same error, so I think the error is with v2.0, not 3.0.

Maps 2 was installed when I got the device. I have a currently active maps subscription that expires in April. (also, I previously used the free three month subscription that came with the handset)

NSU says no update available for my device

I get the error whether or not I delete the Cities directory. In fact, I am pretty sure that's a solution for a different problem.

Is this bug acknowledged by the Nokia Maps beta team? There are a lot of posts is several threads reporting this issue. I have not seen a confirmation from the development team that they could reproduce the problem.

I'm asking because I'd really like to try the new Nokia Maps on my N82.

i currently have 2 computers one with the nseries suite, and one with the regular nokia suite. Both not working. I have the version 1.2 maps on my mobile.
I tried installing maps 2. not working same problem. I think that its the firmware cause it seems to be mostly n82's with the problem and there was a new firmware released a few months ago. Any way to downgrade to the previous firmware?

Hi,

I'm experiencing the same problem with my Nokia 6210 Navigator RM-367. I'm using the latest firmware available for this model in Portugal, the v04.13.

On the phone I get the following: "Unable to install. Component is built-in"

And on the Nokia Maps Updater I get: "Cannot update the maps application. Update failed. (106) Please close all applications on your phone and run Nokia Maps Updater again."

It appears that Nokia Maps 2 is pre-started with the phone and cannot shutdown in order to perform the update.

Looking forward to try it :)

I am not 100% for fp1 but for fp2 here is the solution:
Memory card: Delete, folder "cities".
Delete file "qf"
Use Nokia Maps updater, install.
Open application then close it.
Upload maps.

I had the same issue. Here is how to fix it. Seems to be an issue with FW update and user data preservation.

1. Delete cities folder and qf file from your memory card
2. Factory reset the phone with *#7370#
3. Disable any power savers like screen savers, etc
4. Now use nokia maps updater to update to v3.0
5. Run nokia maps 3 first on the phone
6. Connect to your PC using PC suite mode and transfer maps.

Thanks for the 'fix', but I really don't want to perform a factory reset to put right a Nokia software fault. I'm not that desperate to get Maps v3.0, so I'll wait until Nokia get their act together.

The only way to install v3.0 on a N82 is to restore the phone to factory settings first. It seems that, as soon as Maps 2.0 has been used once, version 3.0 will not install. For other reasons I had to do a hard reset. Deleted the maps and files from my MC, except Music, Images and Video's. Maps 3.0 installed fine now.

I had trying doing the reformat as vzx had suggested. It worked. But then i got not enough memory error. I tried several things to make it work, but no go. I tried deleting the cities folder and that other file. upgraded to v2.0 then reformated again. tried it with full battery. tried different memory card. One thing i had noticed is that when i reformated the phone, when i went in to music, the playlists were still there??? there was no way to shut off the power savers. I checked the memory on the phone, it says it has 100mb free.

Any other solutions?

I had installed Nokia Maps 2.0 and I got the update v.31. When I tried to install Nokia Maps Beta 3, it went fine till it transferred the file to the mobile phone and gave me an error "component built-in" and then the installation process failed. So, after reading lasts comments I decided to go Factory reset entering the phone *#7370#. It solved all my problems. Also, I have had to uninstall the Nokia Maps Uploader 2.0 in order to install Nokia Maps Uploader 3.0 and can download the new maps.

Thanks to all for the collective tips on the forum. Got me there in the end.. :)
For anyone else having issues... here's my story, perhaps it may help.

* NOTE: I DID factory reset my phone. If you don't want to risk it.. then perhaps wait for the betalab fix.

- Phone had Maps 2.0 installed.
- Followed betalabs installation guide and failed at "component built-in" error.
- Factory resetted 4 times using *#7370#, retrying installation after each time. Continued to fail at "component built-in" error.
(Noticed that NOT all of the phone settings were lost. I was expecting an "out of box" reset.)
- Decided to reinstall latest N82 firmware (V31.0.016).
- After firmware I was unable to connect to the phone (via bluetooth or USB) with the Nokia Maps Updater.
- Time for more factory resets. Did one via phone menu Tools\Settings\General\Factory Settings (Phone still retained most of my personal settings... email accounts, calander items etc.)
- Still could not connect to phone with maps Updater software.
- THEN... I simply tried to Factory reset again with *#7370# and this time the Phone did reset everything. I was prompted upon startup for Country\location information... sure enough the phone showed up like 'new'.
- Tried Maps updater again... this time it connected perfectly, and installed maps 3.0 on the device. (There were three prompts on the phone. 1. Yes to installation. 2. Agree to License. 3. Continue.)
** previously the installer would fail after step 2. **

Maps 3.0 installed on the N82.
In hindsight it would seem the factory reset was not occurring correctly even after several attempts. Perhaps a 3 button startup reset might be something to try for those keen and willing, or just keep trying :)

OR, wait for the betalabs suggested fix... that might work without a reset.

One more note for the Betalabs...
During the successful installation of Maps 3.0 the Maps Updater.exe on the PC ended with an error message.
Error "Cannot update the maps application. Phone drive lost (15) If you disconnected your phone, please reconnect it and try again." However, the device (phone) had actually finished installing the update and was in the process of 'rebooting'.

After success with Maps 3.0 installation, when running maps the first time I also received the error "not enough memory". However, following the betalabs suggested instructions (delete Cities folder and qf file.) it worked and maps started up.

Now to try the software and report back...

Hi,

I have simillar problems with N78. I have new PC Suit. I have downloaded new Nokia Maps Upgrader, but I am unable to upgrade to maps 3.0. I run the application, it downloads maps 3.0, transfers to phone. Phone asks about the installation I push ok and several seconds later phone responds "Unable to install: Component is built'in" and there is an error massage 106 in Nokia Maps Upgrader dialog box. THe same result if i swithc the phone of and on.

I tried the factory reset option. Then tried to install Ovi maps 3.0 and I got these as messages:
From the computer - "Cannot update the maps application. Update failed. (106) Please close all applications on your phone and run Nokia Maps Updater again."

I am using a 6210 Nav (SW: 03.25 RM-367) . Initially I had the "component built in" issue as well. After I did a "hard reset" (by pressing *#7370#), I did manage to upgrade my mobile to Maps 3.0 without any drama (thankfully).

If you have already done a "hard reset", maybe you can try to restart both your mobile and PC (not Mac) and then relaunch Maps Updater again?

Followed all the instructions as per many peoples helpful instructions. Took me a while but thanks guys.

First time I ran maps it worked fine, so I then loaded the map for my local area.

Now Maps starts loading BUT will not run, it just goes back to the phones home screen !?

What's going on ? Do I need to delete the CITIES and QF folders again ??

This long winded install is a joke, c'mon Nokia sort it out, this phone cost alot of hard earned corn.

Any ideas you long suffering, smart and creative N82 users (or Nokia staff) ? Please please help as I need Maps for my job travelling around a far flung Mega-city to meetings.

It's necessary to CHANGE the DATE in addition after the factory reset!!

Still the same problem with N82. I won't reset my phone unless I get the free maps.

Its a shame that after more than a year since the problem was reported, no action has been taken even when the maps 3.0 has graduated out of beta.

Should i assume nokia devices have a life span of only 1.5 years when it commes to software support?
