I was using the Maps Updater beta 5.
The beta4 is proposed on the install page of Maps 3.0.
No change, Maps installation produce a #18 error.

I have had the exact same problem on my N82.

Would love to get this new version working ...

beta5: I download the maps updater in december... I discover, when I try to uninstall it that it was the beta 5.
I can't say anything more.

did you delete cities folder and qf file?

I did update without any issues, only problem i am facing is sync with ovi maps

Edit:

No issues with ovi maps sync now, I loaded maps with map loader 3.0.

All working fine, I think this upgrade looks great !!!

I too updated the firmware and then tried re installing Maps 3.0 but without success...

I'm also getting the "Unable to install: Component is built-in" error on my N82. Here are the phone specs:

I have the latest version of Nokia PC Suite, and my phone was connected in the PC Suite-mode. I downloaded the Maps Updater from your 'Nokia Maps 3.0 with Ovi Maps' page and tried to install software with that.

At first I had 'not enough memory'-errors, but they disappeared after I cleared some space on my phone's internal memory AND deleted the 'cities'-folder and 'qf'-file on my memory card. Now the updater was able to transfer the updater-file to my phone, but when I tried to install it I got the "Unable to install: Component is built-in" error; (in Finnish: 'Komponenttia ei voi asentaa. Se on jo valmiina puhelimessa'). I actually tried the install also with the Nokia_Maps_3.0_0302_3.1_u.sis that I downloaded straight to my phone from some Nokia user blog and tried to install the Maps 3.0 with it, but I got the same error message.

Hopefully you fix the problem soon since I'm itching to get to try new stuff on my N82 ;)

Maps 2 was installed when I got the device. I have a currently active maps subscription that expires in April. (also, I previously used the free three month subscription that came with the handset)

Maps Updater: downloaded on Feb 10, 2009 from Betalabs site.

Software updater says there is no update available for my device, although i thought there was a 31.x out there.

I get the error whether or not I delete the Cities directory. In fact, I am pretty sure that's a solution for a different problem.

NSU says there is no update available for my device. I would if I could.

I have the same troubles with my N 82 and with the 6620 classic with the classic already long and also the error was known by the team i do not know why
they do not check before release and saying give me more information about your phone while you have given all the information is trying to make the problem
special but i think its not a special problem for one special phone as you can see,

Where did I say that v30.0.019 was the latest firmware?

Same problem. N82 v31.0.016.
Latest software (pc suite ) also tried when running N series pc suite no luck just error 18 each time.

I have Maps 2.0 instaled, of course, is the message error. In the device I choose Install but, after a few seconds, the error message in in the screen and instalation stop.

I am very sad that untill now i did not hear the solution of an old existing problem for at the time of the first release there was not anyone who paid attention
to it and now??

Just thought I'd mention that I also did a hard reset on my N82, just to clear out any possible conflicts. First thing I did was to try to install Maps 3, and I received the same error 18.

It is a shame that until yet the serious installation problems named that one is total unabel to install the application is not solved

I tried various combinations of install today on a Nokia 6210 Navigator. None worked. It's just a crying shame that you can't download the maps and then install them manually. It isn't fun trying various methods and wasting bandwidth when they aren't going to work.

If you try and load the maps with the old Maps2 still installed you get a problem because the maps exist. If you take the advice and delete the cities and qf folder you get another problem!

Also, using Ovi Suite (beta) doesn't mean it will install the Beta Maps3.

All in all, I think Maps3 should never have gone to BETA in this state. Someone should be reprimanded over this and it gives the impression that Nokia programmers are incompetent.
