Nice to hear from the Maps Team atlast! The silence was a pretty long one :) But its nice to hear that a lot of work has been put in the project during the last one month.

Looking forward to the next beta. When is it coming out? The last beta did not go down too good with my N85, had to reset the phone :) Though am looking forward to the next beta.

Do regularly keep us updated on the status, nice to know that the team is listening :)

It will be soon... I don't want to set the wrong expectations, so as soon as I get a more confirmed date I will put in a post.

i understand an update will show in days to come, so it would better to leave me a response after.
Nice to hear fp1 support but not my concern.
May you provide specific details of map 3.0 project, such as are new features to be considered and included. are bugs of first priority before enhancing featue, web feature and so on.
This will assist us in providing more pressing feedback.
I always get confused, some beta tests are just looking to iron things out while others are interested in further enhancing.
Anyhow an example would be i have a suggestion (which i will place in proper location) that i know will not see the light of day in 3.0 but will title 4.0.
Trust me you will luv it, since it touchs what Oli & Annsi focus on.

Nokai Maps 3.0 installed fine on mine. Only thing I noticed was that the satelite maps do not display when zoomed in enough to see roads in a build up area and the Traffic Info does not work in the UK.

Thanks Nicholas G re your point 4 - yes, it was I, GeoffG, who made that point in the Mapsd 2 beta, and regrettable Maps 2 was publsihed with this bug, and still has it.

On my N95-1, in Maps 3, it does remember in the Country field of the search box, the country that I last used, BUT, if I use select from contacts, it overwrites this country name with the BLANK contry name from my contacts (because we cdon't need country names in our contacts for people in our home country).

There's a further bug, currently, in that once you have laboriously replaced the Country Name that it just blanked, if you then press joystick up or down, it completely clears all the OTHER address fields, and you end up with a search page containing only a country name! Somewhat frustrating.

Kee - this really needs looking at - it's currently quite a struggle to use, and is pretty much unusable, so it would be great if this could be fixed as a priority. As I've said before, one of the advantages an N95 has over a TomTom is that N95 already has PIM features with Contacts data, and it seems a shame to lose this advantage by having a poor or buggy implementation of "select from Contacts".

I just wanted to notify you that I kept getting a message (installation failed) on PC Suit. I tried to delete Maps 2 manually from the phone but it just didn't want to get deleted.

My experience is the opposite of linkisoc.

In Maps 2.0, you only got full postcode searching when online. When offline, the best you got was PR3 4.

With Maps 3.0, even offline, I get the full postcode (and, testing on an obscure location in Somerset) it does take you to the right specific place, not just the generic PR3 4 type location.

Where the behaviour differs is that in Map 3.0, you seem to have to do the postcode search within the "address search", and not within the general search box in the "explore" functionality. With Maps 2.0, you could do the postcode search within the general search box (which in 3.0 appears only under "explore").

Please correct me if people have found other ways to do a postcode search.

Then, install Google Maps, is the only way to have a good functionality on our cell phones. Tha Nokia Team dont have any idea to fix this bugs, sorry but this is the true.

In Barcelona nokia show us beautiful presentation of working nokia maps 3.0 but I don't know if they know that now (march) we have early don't working beta version and nobody know why, especially Creators! You have only 2-3 months to released full working version because till june nokia wants to start selling their new phones with nokia maps 3.0 (touch) especially n97.

I'm playing around with Maps 3.0 on my E71 and it has so far been quite nice an experience.

I owuld like to test the PC-Device integration and sync my Maps favorites on the device with OVI Maps. To set it up I need a path to a "remote database" (translated from Danish). However, I have not been able to find any info on exactly what that path should be. Could you advice or point me in the right direction?

When will be availlable the beta 3 for my Nokia 5800

Hi Kee, your team got a lot of bugs and suggestions the last weeks/months. What do you think about when we will have the chance to test these corrections in a new version? In my exprience it's better to do more smaller beta tests instead of one big one. So the users have the chance to modeling the application for their wishes.

I had an activation code for Nokia Maps 2.0 for 3 months.
When I participate in the beta I have to pay again? or is the beta 3.0 frre of charge.

Normaly you test beta's for free.
on my phone it doesnt work ( N96)

Nokia Maps Updater fails to open on my PC, I am running vista ultimate 32bit. I have tried reinstalling but it always says the program encountered a problem and closes. I have tried running as administrator and still no joy.

Any help or advice will be much appreciated, I really want maps 3.0

I can't get the voice guidance to work in a car that has built in Blutooth. It works fine when the bluetooth connection between the car and phone has been stopped

I have a N95 8Gb on the vodafone network with version 20.0.016 firmware, as I was informed they are not going to do any further updates.

Ovi maps starts quite quickly, but takes a long time to close down and have noticed a couple of slight problems, as described below.

1. If not using a bluetooth headset, you can answer the call, but you cannot place the call on loud speaker if driving (Fiancee normally places calls on loud speaker, as illegal for driver to use a mobile). But has problems if ovi maps is running.

2. maps give me directions to go over a roundabout and turn right at the second then follow he road, but by turning right at the first and changing the route is faster on a tea-time, as it brings you out further up the route. This is where the problem starts, instead asking you to turn right at a roundabout and follow the rest of the road, it asks you to return to the second roundabout, go all the way around it, to return to where you came out of the shortcut. This wastes time and uses about 1.5 miles in each direction (3 miles in total).

Guess this is an error in the re-routing part of the software and could do with reparing, as it happened to me once and wasted about 7 miles.

However that last updated saying "in the matter of days" and "will keep you all posted " was 10 days ago.

Sadly maps 3 didn't work for more than a couple of days on my N95, and no reinstalling, deleting config files, folders etc has ever bought it back to life. But then I guess thats what beta testing is for, to find these problems. Although more updates and acknowledgment of users problems and reports from the developers would be good.

@gogliogi: What region are you in?

I am based in the UK and thought I had seen map data updates last year prior to adopting NM3 early this year, when it released for v3.1 phones

I'm in Parma, Italy, and still see maps that are over one year outdated. Nokia maps still sends me in the wrong direction on a street that has been one way only for more than 18 months...

I have needed to find places in a town nearby and 3 times now NM3 has taken me to a private road and asked me to drive down it. At the start of the road (which I have never used) it states that it is private and satnav's should not be using this as a public road. Another sign say's 'NO SATNAV NAVIGATION in this area'

Private roads sould not be used and after realising what the satnav has done, you end up doing an extra 3-5 miles, driving to another section of the town before the satnav changes it's route, instead of saying 'do a U-Turn'.

These problems need sorting by either the Navteq or NM3 (ovi)

PS: Where is this new release that was going to be released in days... Woops did they say days instead if weeks, by accident.. LOL

PS: I know this area's for NM3, but would you know how I would stand if I de-branded from vodafone, as they havent supported FW upgrades since Feb or May last year. I think this might improve things like NM3 or the video side of my phone. If you know where I can get advice or if you know any reason for me not to debrand and updae to the latest FW, could yo9u please let me know. SORRY for bringing it up here

Debranding your phone, aslo known as changing the "product code" will void your warranty. The decision you have to make is the likelyness of you wishing to make a waranty claim on your phone at some point in the future.

All firmware updates wipe information fomr your phone memory and all apps installed on your mass memory get a little messed up as there registry entries get messed up. You will have to either unstall all apps showing in App Manager as being installed on your "mass memory" prior to FW update or resign yourself to having to reinstall them and possibly having to then uninstall and re-install them again as they have to be re-insatlled before they can be uninstalled due to broken links. Remember to note down any activiation keys, serial number etc before FW update aswell. I haven't had the data loss issue that navio1973 had, but I sync my contacts, callendar etc with my PC prior to updating and make an internal backup onto mass memory to be updated back afterwards. Note that the backup feature with PC suite can be alittle dubious around FW updates.

I feel your pain. I've been there with Vodafone. The Mobile providers like Vodafone spend money branding these phones, and spend some of this with Nokia as branded phones are greatly subsidised by the Mobile Providers (like Vodafone). The problem comes when they choose not to spend continued money branding firmware updates and also choose not to permit the product codes for these branded phones to therefor be permitted to install the later non branded versions of the FW.

This would be a middle ground. An agreement between Nokia and the Mobile phone providers to permit branded product codes to upgraded to the later unbranded FW versions when the Phone provider choosees to no longer support branded FW updates on that branded product code.

This is my humble opnion and is extremely off subject to say we are in a Maps forum, but there it is.

I have de-branded and updated to 31.0.015, as after checking I found that euro1 should work on my phone. I have now noticed mbrett has version 31.0.018 and think I might as well change the code again and update to this latest version. mbrett I have noticed this version is slower than 20.0.016, so hope your version is faster.

I think it might be a good idea if there was a section on the ovi forum to deal with phone problems, as well as the software. We could all help each other there and people would not ask questions and receive answers in other sections of the forum
