Ugh, having the same problem on my N79 as I had with the first release on my N85 - despite having 8MB of internal memory free, and the Maps update is only 4.5MB, I'm repeatedly told that I'm out of internal memory when installing the update, to the point that the install fails.
I'm still baffled as to why you can't just release a .sis file, like with previous Maps 2 updates. This whole Maps Update app is a massive pain in the butt.
Installed it on my E71 and it crashes while zooming in on my location on startup..

We've seen this before on the E71 during some internal testing. What seems to fix this is to use Maps loader 3.0 and install the maps for the area(s) you want.

I'm not having issues with my E71, I'm having issues with my N79. I already have the previous version installed and running fine (in fact, I used it twice last week). The problem is this goofy installation procedure. I have 8MB free on my N79's internal memory, and yet I can't install this 4.78MB installer. I'm also lost as to why on earth we need to use this goofy desktop app just to install a .sis file onto our phones? Seems rather backwards, specifically when previous Maps updates were released as a simple .sis file (and that's basically all this Maps Updater is diong).
Update: Just deleted Nokia Email from my N79, giving me 16.6MB of free internal storage, and I *still* got the memory full message. This is completely ridiculous.

Does the "Out of memory" message come from phone or the computer?
To answer you question regarding the .sis file: One of the main reason is because the old Maps data is not compatible with Maps 3.0 and this needs to be deleted before running Maps 3.0. The alternative solution we had was to issue a .sis file and ask the user to delete (manually) files from the memory card. It was felt that it would be easier for the majority of users to have an application to do this for them.
We are currently trying different approaches and hope that a better solution will be available for the final release.

The out of memory message is on the phone. It tells me that I don't have enough internal storage to complete the installation. I have Handy Taskman installed, and can confirm that I have either 8.1MB or 16.6MB (I've tried with both) of internal memory free, and if I check during the installation, it indeed shows that I have less than 1MB free.
I just tried the installation after deleting the .qf file and Cities folder from my memory card, and still have the same result. As mentioned, I'm already running the previous Maps 3.0 beta on this phone.
Ok, I'm really not trying to be an ass about this, but I just tried the trick of searching my computer's Temp folder during the installation, to get the .sis file, and then installed that like I would any other .sis file, and guess what, it worked perfectly. I checked during the installation, and I had ~14MB out of 16.6MB free the whole time, down to 12MB after the installation.
Any explanation as to wtf is using the other 12MB during the 'proper' installation?
Uhh... Reading Ricky's posts, i am a bit vary about installing it!
I just have 5MB on Internal Memory free because my N85 likes to eat up the internal storage on a daily basis.
Can i install it to the Memory card without losing on my Internal memory?
Hmmm, it's a 4.5MB file, so having 5MB free might not work. However, if you search your computer's Temp folder for the .sis file JUST after it downloads (right before it starts the installation), you can save it to your desktop, and then after the installation fails, just use that directly. That's what worked for me.

yes the n85 does eat memory.
Tips to reduce this would be......
Use widsets on memory card. Also google maps. Msn Messenger, although im still testing where emails are stored in based on installation or by selecting where text msgs are storred in phone or memory card.
General tip, any app that cachs things use memory card. Dont worry about speed its all the same for new devices.
Im still testing nokia messaging if it eats phone memory.
I don't know if this is really an issue or just a "feature", but on my n95-3 I have seen the backlight doesn't go away ever -- I've reset the system default to 5s, then restart the phone to no luck.
Other than that, I'm very happy w/ it though there are still no maps for ecuador (where I'm right now)

I finally also can use 3.0 now on my E90. One thing i miss immediately is the search?
Where is the search? Normally i would just start typing something and i get a textbox where i could enter "random" text and press search.
(the same way google maps works) This was one of the best new features of 2.0. But 3.0 seems to deleted that great feature again?
I always have to search for addresses now??
Thx by the way for given me the typeahead/lookup fields on the address input! Thats really one of the best features now of 3.0!
How many times i typed a street name that was just a bit different then i expected and that 2.0 just didnt find anything....

If i use select by Contacts then for most contacts i dont have the country name specified. If that is not the case you should just use the default one of the country that i am in. I guess that should be get somewhere from the phone easily for you guys?
Also if i have a country specified then it is many times just my local name. I dont have The Netherlands but just Nederland i think your country select field should be able to handle those. So have a list of supported languages where the country name will be matched on.

I have tried to install the new maps updater and am getting an error about insufficient phone information (1) and connection to maps server has been interrupted (9).
I have checked and the updater Setup_Nokia_Maps_Updater_1.0_beta_4.exe is exactly the same name and size as the one I downloaded in december. I have read elsewhere on the forum people talking about beta_5, where can this be downloaded from as the download screen has beta_4 linked.
Also, do you have to have an active internet connection while installing the updater?

I installed Map Loader, but realized that Map Loader 2 had to be completely removed before installed in Map Loader 3, reinstalling the newer version did not result in an upgrade but merely kept the old version.
Anyways, with that sorted out I installed Swedish voices and maps and restarted the application on my phone, and guess what, it worked!
Before I did this today I just tried to fire up the application again, which resulted in the phone rebooting itself, tried it again and same result.

On the e90 it is really buggy. especially on the inner screen
If i start navigation on the inner screen, the voice directions are exactly right but the view is completely wrong. I dont see where i drive
If i switch to my external screen then i see it. And if i then switch back to the inner screen. i sort of see it, i mean with sort of i see what i see on the front
in the left/top corder (the 320x200 view) and the rest is just the map that also sort of moves with me.
also without navigation, just showing the map on the inner screen it did move the screen but i didnt see the right dot where i was (this doesnt seem to be always the case). Also when viewing the map for a while. and making a route and then to the map. Then i am suddenly in germany, (living in holland) also if i scrollback and then do My Position i go back to germany.. It seems that Maps is calculating correctly the coordinates when the screen is larger then 320x200
Dashboard on the inner screen is completely black. I dont see nothing there.
So all in all it really seems that nokia has fixed the ui on 320x200 instead of really asking how big the screen is and then layout correctly :(
The navigation is also strange, i will test it a bit more but it guided me over a gasstation on the high/free way. (so off, on) instead of just straight on.
When i am in the front screen i like that we now have see the whole route as onces (very very nice, now only give me written directions so that i can read the turns and highway numbers!). But when i did that under navigation i never get back the 3d view... After that the view switches are very weird i could get 2d or whole route but only a bit delayed. I never just get back to the normal 3d or 2d view (2d was zoomed out way to much and didnt really seem to follow me again)
I guess i have to play with the auto zoom stuff a bit maybe that has something to do with it
What i do like is that finally we have the option to turn the map direction to the way i drive, not always north, even without navigation. Thats great!
Why is the internal screen of E90 always in fullscreen mode (the external screen is not)
I would like to have an extra menu in that has all the menu items that are under 1,2,3,4 and so on so that we can learn what to do by looking at the menu. Or do it on the menu.. Now that we get more and more options under keys it is harder to know what does what in what view... (so the menu must be context sensitive)
Under navigation i cant really go to the "normal" settings screen. For example to turn of the option of the speed limit or automatic zoom.
I also have the traffic info abo. But that is really still useless. It is still cumulative so if i get traffic info in the end i have traffic jams of 50km or so and i guess because of that it tells me that there are traffic jams that are already long gone.
I do see a lot of good stuff coming but especially for the E90 and its large internal screen this version doesnt really work well yet :(
Text messages and MSN Messenger, they are triffles!
We are talking something to the tune of 60MB+ in the "Other Files" catagory. My analysis is that ngage is the culprit here, the saved games and game data files!
I have started the process of moving the individual apps from being installed from the phone memory to the memory card, though i don't use Nokia Messaging. I use Seven System's mail client.I dont remember whether it had the option of installing to memory card, i doubt whether it would have the option.
Do share if you find any cause for the zombie effect!

Using Nokia Maps Updater I get the message that new updates are available and I have an option to download or cancel.
Clicking on the download button does nothing, I have clicked it 20 times and nothing comes of it, I was patient and waited 20 minutes and nothing happened either.
The cancel button is unresponsive as well. The only button that is responsive is the X button in the top right.
I removed the Maps Updater program and re-installed it but everything stayed the same.
Anybody else having this problem? Any advice/suggestions?

Hi Pean - how did you remove Map Loader 2? I have an E71 and the program works fine on my device but the map loader remains on version 2.0 regardless of upgrades. How did you remove Map loader 2 so that the upgrade would work for pc suite?

Unfortunately the E90 is not yet supported - At the moment, the UI (User Interface) is not optimal and during some internal tests, it crashed.
This is why we left it off the "supported device" list. However, the team is working on resolving these issues for the E90.

Hello! I installed the new Nokia Maps 3.0 on FP1 Nokia E51 (06) with 300.34.56 (Hungary) 11-12-2008, RM-244. My problem is: bad route planning. I using Hungarian maps (with Map Loader 3.0), but route calculation is very stupid. Maps 2.0 calculate Győr > Budapest: 130 km (thats correct, with very good instructions), Maps 3.0 Győr > Budapest: 1600 km.

I've noticed a number of you are having issues with selecting the download button on your PC (#32 and #41)
This is a known issue on certain windows builds and we are currently working on a fix. Try using the TAB key to select "download" - this usually works.

I can't install Nokia Maps v3 on my N78. I receive "Component is buit-in" error message.
I have software version 20.149 (custom version 20.149.051.1) with language set 005
If I set the default access point to my home wlan profile and check "Go online", it connects always with a GPRS profile. It only will use wlan, if i change the default access point, which is now the GPRS profile to the wlan profile.
But next time it is repeatedly the same issue, wlan is set -> "go online" -> GPRS-profile is used and showed up as default -> change default access point to wlan -> GPRS and WLAN are active

To solve the problem of innactive buttons, you have to change the size of your fonts in your Windows Operating System. To do this, use the display configuration and chage the size of the fonts (ppp), you have to make them smaller.
I tried this, and works fine!!!

I just got my phone upgraded to Nokia Maps 3.0 from Nokia Maps 2.0. Everything seems to be working fine, except Voice Navigation.
After installing Nokia Maps using Map Updater, I downloaded Voices (English - Male and English - Female) and Maps using Map Loader 3.0 and installed it in my device without any problem.
But, when I tried using Voice Navigation, Im not getting any voice guidance (No audio). I went to Tools > Settings > Navigation. Voice Guidance option was set to English - Female. When I selected English - Male, it prompted me to download voice guidance, eventhough i have installed voice guidance thro Map Loader! I didnt download voice guidance over data packet as i dont have data connection. What could be the probelm? Please help.

I have the same problem, it works after instalation in my N96, but today every time I use "drive to" the application crashes, What can I do??.
@ #50, 51, 52. This is a bug from the previous beta. Its no problem.
First make sure you used maps loader 3.0.
Anyhow, go to file manager cities/diskcache/voices. Delete whats there. Download the voices using your maps 3.0 which will work 100% or you can try using maps loader if it will work.
I recently updated to Maps 3.0 Beta 1 and it worked great on my N85 with only a few minor issues but have since removed 3 beta 1 and went back to version 2 the reintalled the new version 3.0 beta 2 & now have NO voice guidance. I downloaded the English UK (female) voice & checked to see if the files were in cities\voices & all was ok but NO VOICE guidance when using the turn by turn nav mode.
Anybody else had this problem ????

Thanks for the suggestion Kee, however it didn't fix it for me. Using tab allowed me to cancel but not download. I also tried changing the font size through the display window but my font was already at the smallest size and no size changes have fixed my issue.

I installed the new 3.0 map application and after some small problems at the start the application now works fine.
The new features as camera warning or speed limit warnig are great.
It really makes you watching your speed when the voice keeps telling you that you are driving overspeed.
And the camera warning is really waited feature.
I have had the Maps2.0 previously with one year licence-
The licence is also working fine with this new release.
Also the dashboard is nice.

I´m sorry but I cleaned my voice files and download again spanish f with maps loader 3.0 but it doesn´t work. Now it dosen´t crash but I can´t hear any voice.
I had the problem of no voice on voice guidance.
now i followed the instructions of SNOWY and the the voice guidance is ok.

The problem with this thread is that we've got reviews, suggestions and bug reports all mixed up together - which takes us back to the old days of the old beta labs site, and means we miss out on the benefits of the new one.
So for example, there's no easy way to llok through the bug reports or improvement suggestions and find out whether someone else has also reported the same bug or made a similar suggestion, to save me clogging up the forum with a duplicate or very similar post - or in case someone's already posted a solution for my bug.
Can we post a "Sticky", asking people to post using the new forum features, posting reviews, bug reports and suggestions under separate headings, and checking previous posts so that if we have somtehing similar we either add our contribution to an existing thread, or just realise that we don't need to post again as this has been covered.

I' having the same problem with others "Out of memory to run application". I'm using Nokia N82, at 1st I'm really excited about the release of Nokia Maps 3.0 beta because at the early release my phone wasn't in compability pack... But after the 2nd release I really dissapointed with the result... I tried as told to delete dities & qf files, but it still the same error... I had tried several time until now... So pls, can someone tell me how to fix it because last time I check my internal memory is 97MB free... I really need to use the maps because I just move in to new place & it's really trouble me when I got lost... TQ.

We are very painfully aware of this problem and are trying to get the forum improved. We had some setbacks last week and it was postponed to this week. Hopefully we can get some ease to this soon. I am hoping the categorizations will help us a bit. Getting bug reports and other issues to their own place should help us already a lot.

Although the maps forum is getting pretty ugly quickly.
@Kee, like geoffg.ovi suggested to provide topic stickys or category's for members to follow. Ive given the same suggestion to Iikka in the past. Some sort of drop of box for each category according to what you assign. It will further help you in the future to create these "drop off boxes" before a beta update. An example "fp1 general issues" , "Not enough memory", etc......
i installed MAPS 3.0 2 days ago on my e71.
The install of MAPS 3.0 worked fine but when it said, updating old or obsolete MAP data.
I expected an update not a full delete of my downloaded map data.
OK... after I found out that all my downloaded 2.0 map data was gone, I installed map loader 3.0 which did not de-install 2.0 map loader neither did it ask to do so. After manually de-installing map loader 2.0, installing 3.0 again I was able to download required maps.
Installing Europe took about 3 hours!!!! Downloading itself was not so much an issue. I live in a village which has a fiberglass internet infrastructure and having a 100MB line gives me plenty of speed. What I don't understand is that 1.6GB of downloaded data needs to be unpacked...another 1.6GB of data in a temp environment..asking for3.6+GB of data. Why not ask where to store the temp files instead of using the standard windows system temp directory. Smart systems are configured to have temp data on a separate partition and do not expect 3.6GB of temp storage....!!!
The upload to my mobile phone took hours! Although connect by usb cable!
Having used the navigation a few times I did (almost) not discover a more user friendly user interface... In fact the search options are less then with 2.0. For some reason I can only search for places like accomodation...when going to the options menu when in navigation mode.
What about traffic light updates and speed limit notification?
To go-online has a bug as well. Although having a valid internet connection, the systems tell me to assign one. I have to go into internet options, physically change to another connection go out and get back in to select the connection I had before I can go online.

I ve been trying to install the Maps 3.0 beta on my phone( Nokia N82). I have installed the latest firmware update
for my phone which happens to be V31. When I try to install it, the phone shows an error message saying "The
component is built in, cannot complete install" Why does this happen?? I also tried deleting the qf file on my memory
card. I even deleted the cities folder. But the problem seems to persist... Plz help me... I do want to try the Beta.

I had Nokia Maps 2.0 on my Nokia N95. There I could locate majority of my places/cities in my country.Even Minute things like lake, Hotels were shown. Now I have upgraded it to Maps 3.0.
This is not even showing the roads in my city properly. I agree it is quite fast when compared to 2.0 version but on the cost of data which is required for a user like me. many of the places are not visilble in my city in Nokia Maps 3.0.
There a numbers of users like me and thorught the forum who cant even open the application and nobody is trying to help not even "Nokia Maps Team".
Like this man "http://betalabs-web1.srv.hosting.fi/forum/topic/1205" me and other people i know who are triying to open the application are experiencing that it crashes abruptibly before it even starts. Computers configuration arent the problem since i have tried it in XP SP3, VISTA and WIndows 7 with serveral different processors too with any luck in either of them.
Could any of you please be so kind to help us try your new applications or at least tell us what to expect as a normal behaviour. I even tried opening Maps Loader first and then Nokia Maps Updater but it says "Another instance of Nokia Maps Updater or Nokia Map Loader is already running. To continue Nokia Maps Updater, please close the other program first."
So i wonder,
* Is it that Nokia Maps Updater isnt a standalone app but a part of Nokia Map Loader?
* How do i know that my maps are updated to version 3.0?
* Is the aplication diferent?
* Are, in my case, Venezuela maps any diferent from other regions maps in this version?
If not, WHY?

I have problems with N78. I have new PC Suit. I have downloaded new Nokia Maps Upgrader, but I am unable to upgrade to maps 3.0. I run the application, it downloads maps 3.0, transfers to phone. Phone asks about the installation I push ok and several seconds later phone responds "Unable to install: Component is built'in" and there is an error massage 106 in Nokia Maps Upgrader dialog box. THe same result if i swithc the phone of and on.

wanted to try again the nm3 BETA but maps updater didn
Installed Maps 3.0 the other day and the only errors seen so far are the ones that were covered in the install guide ie ran out of memory space while updating maps. I had to delete maps 2.0 loader from the pc while trying to run map loader 3.0 as it continually started maps 2.0 instead. I find the best feature so far is the route planner and sync up between the pc and the phone. It seems to find my position even quicker than maps 2.0 which is also great. The 3D features will no doubt come into play more while walking round town but have not really tried this out yet. Recommended for N96 users.

It seems that N78 problem is not a kind that could be resolved and there is not a solution to our questions. However Ihope that there will be someone able to deliver a proper response to that issue of intalling maps 3.0 on this phone N78.

Have your tried using OVI Suite instead of PC Suite. This is what I use and have never had a problem, well not with later version anyway.

I loaded 3.0 as directed and loaded maps for California, Texas & Arizona. I am not seeing major landmarks such as Disneyland in 3D. Everything else seems to work fine though.
We are so eager to see the Beta version for 5800 XM. :)), I will be happy to test it
@Isongne: How far in have you zoomed. They only appear at a certain level of zoom in the 3D mode.

@pookleeco: have you deleted "Cities" folder and "QF" file?
If not, do this and then try to start NM3 on your phone. If it starts, you need to let it run for a minute to load up and the exit, connect your phone to your PC and install teh maps and voice you require via Nokia Map Loader 3.
Remember that Nokia Map Loader 3 will not install if you have Nokia Map Loader 2 on your PC already although it may appear to install ok. The way to tell is to see what version it states on the main page. If you have Nokia Map Loader 2 install, un-install this and then install Nokia MapLoader 3 before connecting your phone.

Take a look at this video to illustrate many of the problems with Maps including in the US there is no support for traffic. This is not that big a deal to me but to some it is.
I've noticed that the 3D models of buildings from the previous Beta has been lost in my new mobile beta.
And a lot of the same issues still exist, mainly that Maps doesn't help me find goods and services around me very efficiently. I got angry the other day when someone with an iPhone had a much faster, easier time locating a hardware store as well as their location came up instantaneously while I waited for my N82 to find my location which it was not accomplishing even with a strong 3G signal. Not only did I feel like I had inferior software but my phone ended up being useless.
I understand Nokia is less geared towards the US market and iPhone is centered around the US market but with the power of NavTeq behind it, Nokia should be building a much more stabile and useful Maps application.
I have found that the trafic niformation may not display initially after the update to the latest beta version, when it was available previously. This can be resolved by the Cities folder and qf file delete process, remebering to delete the cities folder from the phone memory aswell if found.
Also the traffic and safety licence (formerly the traffic licence) is required for the traffic info, safety camera warner and speed limit warner to operate.
The 3D models now require the user to have a City Explorer licence (formerly the walk licence).
Re iphone location lock. I could be proven wrong, but my beleif is that the iphone more heavily relys on Cell Tower triangulation (Network Based) rather than GPS. You could have been in a good network reception area with poor GPS satelite reception, due to weather conditions or tall buildings etc or GPS satellite location may have not been n you favor at that point. Maps will not provide the "My location" option until you have GPS coverage, although you can see a wider red circle whilst only having Network Based location. I assume you have Assisted GPS activated in the GPS Data on your phone. This uses you network to log into a server providing you phone with a shortlist of GPS satellites to try to lock to based on your phone location to speed up initil GPS lock.

I noticed that the N97's compass doesn't seem to work with the Maps 3.0 Beta. I also noticed that there is no "My Location" within the Options menu, meaning the only way I can return to my location is by closing and reopening Nokia Maps. Any pointers?
I upgraded to the latest beta about 2 weeks ago and thought with it crashing all the time today I would try deleting the 'cities' and 'qf' files, but had the same problems.
For this reason I run the maps updater software and it told me a newer version was available, so I have installed it. The details of the about screen are below:

On a Windows XP PC with a Nokia 5800 phone over USB. PC-suite runs ok, I can load maps (Nokia map loader"), but the map application updater (Nokia maps updater) that should upgrade to Ovi maps 3.0 does not respond to pressing the "cancel" and "download" buttons. Like comment 32, the only things that works in the window is the tiny X at the top right corner to close the updater application. I suspect the geometry, since some of the explanatory text in the window disappears on the right side.
It was identified as a font size issue with the interim corrective method being to change your font size.

After I installed it on my E90, everytime I go into Options>Tools>Settings> and choose Navigation, the phone resets itself.
I'm sad. I hate it when marvellous new software reduces a phone to little more than a light box!
