Hi all, is it possible to go back to using the previous version of nokia maps, and if so where do I get it from, just to Meany bugs for my liking, and feed up with having to re-install the maps as they just disappear from the phone and also have a licence for traffic warnings and can not get this to work or show up on the 3.0 version. Any help would be great. Thanks in advance
We have been working out solutions/work-arounds for the problems you discuss above which are discussed within the Maps Mobile client forum.
With regards the lack of safety cameras etc. The information for this is downloaded over the air on first useage post download and install of your map data. If the mobile reception is poor at this point the database file can become corrupt and then the Safety Cameras will not display.
STEP 1: I do the follownig now. Install Maps 3.0 (back-up the Cities folder and qf file from you phone to your PC).
STEP 2: Download the map data and voice files you require using Nokia Map Loader (back-up the Cities folder and qf file from you phone to your PC).
STEP 3: Start Maps on your phone and allow the application to run until it has stopped downloading data (back-up the Cities folder and qf file from you phone to your PC).
If you are now seeing Safety Cameras in the Maps software, you are good to go. If not, delete the Cities folder and qf file from your phone and copy the version of this file and folder backed up at teh end of STEP 2. Then start the maps application and allow the application to run until it has stopped downloading data. If you now have maps data, you are good to go, els repeat this paragraph in a better reception area.
With regards the Map data loss at least this method of backups speeds up the reload time. Some people believe that if you use a third party file manager to set the Cities folder as a "system" folder then the data stops being lost, but you need to change it back to update map data.
With regard to you original question depending on your phone you can either search the internet forums for a copy of Maps 2 or do a hard reset of your phone. Another option is to contact Nokia Care and request they send you an installation file for the last version of Maps 2 for your specific phone model.

If you updated the licence to the 3.0 it is not possible to downgrade it to the 2.0.

Good point navio. I assume that Nokia Care could help with the Licence issue, but that can take time.

Upgraded my handset to N86 and Maps 3.0 worked fine with the old SIM, I inserted and registered the new SIM and Maps reports a new SIM, would I like to transfer the licences? Yes = No update found, No = same.
Called Nokia Care line on Monday afternoon and have been waiting since, I've chased them 3 times now!
The last time this happened, it took 3 months to fix and I never got the lost subscription back!!!

Thanks for you comments and suggestions, I have done what mbreet suggested but still don't work, I will also point out that I don't have free web browsing with my contract so I am paying every time I go on line via Nokia maps, on my last bill it cost me
Good new and bad news. The Mpas license is found via mobile data. When you use Maps it checks for licences. Formatting your C: drive (Hard Reset) you will wipe everything off your C: drive. If you wipe references to the Maps license when you Hard Reset it does not matter as Maps will find it again when you run it post Hard Reset. navio does make a good point though as a number of people have lost there Maps 3 licenses when they have downgrade from Map 3 to Maps 2.
I keep a back-up to speed up re-installs compared to waitong for the downlaod via Nokia Maps. I do also keep a copy of the back-ups on my F: drive (Memory Card) for on the road re-installs/ reloads.

Thanks for the help, I now have my safety cam's back :-) one question, I am going to do what mbrett said and back up on a memory card, I take it I only need to back up the city's folder and the qf file?

You only need to back-up the Cities folder and QF file. The important thing is when to do this, but I have discussed this in a previous post which I assume you have seen.
