Suggestion for Ovi Maps 3.0 Beta for mobile

Hi Kee, As GPS devices and other mobile phones are providing navigation features such as GPS, GPS-enabled phones have become very sought after. However, one of the factors that I found out from others who are not using Nokia for GPS is the the subscription charged for nagivation. I would like to request Nokia to provide this service as a free service rather than chargeable. It would thus provide an extra edge for mobile users to take keener interest to switch to Nokia. Please take this into consideration as I too, who owns a N95 8GB, am also tempted to purchase mobile phones or standalone devices for navigation (without charge). I believe many Nokia users have been hoping that Nokia would embark on providing this extra complimentary service.

I agree with fordprobe1994, as for the cost of a one year service subscription to the map service I could buy a tomtom on sale that I would be able to use for more then a year and just pay $10 a year for updated maps. Therefore being much cheaper after just two years. Also the fact that the Iphones have it free as well as some motorola phones, it is just not reasonalbe to pay that. I have been holding out for my Nokia N95 8gb to have free turn by turn rather then buying a stand alone unit.

I agree, there should be free voice guidance, especially when I can buy a standalone GPS unit for the same price as a years subscription to Nokia Maps. But even failing that the beta should defintiely have free voice guidance so people can try it and compare it to other software. I currently use Garmin Mobile XT and am not willing to pay for voice guidance in a beta so I can compare. So it looks like I am back to Garmin Mobile XT.

I am currently putting on hold getting a Garmin device or downloading Garmin software into my Nokia mobile, awaiting for a positive response from my request for free voice guidance in Nokia Maps. However, no news so far is not necessarily good news. I may just have to consider the alternative, or for that matter as suggested by some of my friends to get other mobile phones downloaded with Garmin software, thus ditching Nokia Maps. From what I hear, Garmin software does a better job of getting the position compared to Nokia Maps. I am really hoping that the Nokia Team here has heard my plea, as I would prefer to stick to Nokia mobiles and Nokia Maps, if the voice guidance is complimentary and locates the GPS positioning quicker.

At least let us have the complimentary voice guidance to all the loyal Nokia mobile owners while the software is upgraded to better and quicker response to positioning. Here's hoping that we hear from the Team on this matter.

Free for what? Its a paid voice service. The rest is free.
Free license for beta testing would be more fitting, but not a free service.

If the Nokia Voice Navigation was free, would you still expect people to volunteer to do all this programming and such for free? Imagine the amount of time and effort put into creating this program and keeping it updated and listening to people on forums and at service centres and imagine doing that with only the money that Nokia would deem enough for that year or whatever.
I still haven't seen a free navigation service on an Apple iPhone as yet, (google maps is not turn by turn navigation) Wayfinder navigator is useless on my side of the world (Australia) The new Samsung Omnia only came with the Navigation software included with one carrier otherwise it was I believe 180 euro to purchase, Garmin XT is I don't know how much to buy and Vodafone compass paid for over 12 months is only $3 less than a one year subscription of Nokia Maps. I would prefer Nokia Maps, at least I am able to voice my problems and issues and can either get a solution either from another user or someone in the know pretty quickly (thanks Discussions) for those things, I'm quite glad to pay for a nice English lady to tell me when to turn at the next corner and such. Now if only I could get Mr. T.....
By the way. A hundred bucks over a year isn't much to pay. That's less than 30 cents a day. I'm sure that is something all of us can afford to pay if we are buying these phones.
