Bugreport for Ovi Maps Beta for mobile

Hi all,
If you have experienced routing issues, it would be good if you can provide screen shots to help us better investigate. There are a number "free" screen shot applications available (just search on google) or alternatively there is one available from Ovi Store: http://store.ovi.com/content/1540

UPDATED (good point navio1973- thanks!): When you have the screen shot(s), please email them to service.trials@nokia.com

In the email, please put in the subject line "Ovi Maps Routing issue", start and end address of the route, details of your device, firmware and any other useful information.

the idea is very good but for privacy reason, is it not better to use an e-mail address where send the info??
You can understand that it could near the home and not everybody wants give the home address.

one of my problems of route calculation is always the same that I complained
start Wroclaw, Poland
destination Tortoreto, Italy

if you calcule it with OM mobile or website, the faster route is really not good.
Try to see the difference with navteq website, google maps, viamichelin, etc
it is possible do it in less 15 hours being for 1580 km on the motorway an about 10km on normal routes

another ones are strange U-turns, already posted in a thread and you have some picture.
I can send you a mail with all informations for simulate it.

Does this include strange routes from maps.ovi.com? Is it the same routing engine?
I use maps.ovi.com a lot and sometimes get weird things going on. If you do want that info then I will send it through.

There is a ghost that lives on that middle street and GPS knows that.

Yesterday I run into a situation where OM 3.03 told me to turn right and then make u-turn. I have driven thru the same crossing several times and OM has always before (corretly) told me to turn left.

I tried to replicate the error by creating routes through that crossing, but those routes were always correct.

This was the first such error I have experienced with 3.03. Previously I saw something similar a few times with 3.01.

Every time I have seen this strange u-turn-error, it has happened after the route has been recalculated. I wonder if that is by chance or is it systematic.

I have sent one e-mail through which basically explains all my routing problems. I might leave it at that.
1) Too many route points makes it go funny. It starts to miss route points.
2) Long distance routes use different roads to short distance routes and makes it avoid using sensible roads when adding route points. Short distance routes will connect the dots fine but long distance routes will detour via hundreds of KMS.

You can see that it is taking me through a side road instead of turning left on my home street.

Hello,

I try to use the maps to go from home to where I will go on hollidays.
So it is From Belgium, Theux
The destination is in Italia
Street Viale Dei Mille
City Cesenatico (47042)
If I don't want to use the pay roads, it is impossible (I can't go to switzerland Geneve too). I have to accept the pay roads to be able to go there.
The application on Internet has the same problem : It is impossible if I want to use the non pay roads.

Edit : For the Nokia 5800, it is a problem with the memory of the phone. I have said in the parameters to be able to use up to 90% of the memory card and it is working. I guess that 8 GB is not enough for the Micro SD card.

Hi Ovi Team,

I try to plan a route from Ireland to Germany.
But after some time it always says "No route found".

Needed maps are present on the device.
Both countries work fine for their own. For example, I can plan a route from Germany to Italy, or internally Ireland.
I've set it to allow toll roads and ferries.
Version used is 3.03

As per gigamatze above.. Maps (3.03) fails to navigate from Amsterdam in Holland to Bicester in the UK. Long pause 'calculating' then a beep and it dumps me back to the location map. It looks like it is failing to find a route across the English channel. I would expect it to take me to calais and then by ferry or the channel tunnel to UK. (or Hook van Holland and the infrequent ferry from there).
First navigation tool I've ever met that fails at this.

did u do the routing in offline mode or online mode? i suffered also sometimes those kinds of problems. Basically even we have downloaded the Map Data of the country we needed, offline mode sometimes doesn't provide the route. It is because the route needs the Map Data also to pass the countries between the start and destination countries.

from Venice (Italy) to Rome (Italy) the route calculate by OM is bad and longer.
the faster route is A4 - A13 - A1

Bug (v3.03 10wk11 b04/E71): "Faster" route suggested by routing takes a lot more time than shorter or optimized, can be true sometimes as maps tends to suggest snowmobile or forestry vehicle routes.

Example weird case 1 - tested maps.ovi.com 2010/08/25 - start point: Rassilantie, 52700, Finland - end point: Kivisilmäntie 650, 47910, Finland - Faster[?]=77.2km/1:20h - Optimized=22.8km/43min (in this case it seems that optimized route probably goes to dead end road in military area..)

Example weird case 2 - tested maps.ovi.com 2010/08/25 - start point: Kyynäräntie 126, 31380, Finland - end point: Turuntie 372, 31500, Finland - Faster=59.8km/47min - Optimized=58.4km/45min - Shorter[?]=82.9km/1:33h

Example weird case 3 - while was driving from Varkaus to Koli, Nokia Maps application told there is >90km left while road sign told Koli 40km something, had to shutdown the application at this point...

Annoying feature, results to routes impossible to drive (v3.03 10wk11 b04/E71) - Few times in Finland, Etelä-Savo & Pohjois-Savo, while trying to navigate using Nokia Maps application, it routed to small roads and then instructed to continue using snowledge or forestry vehicle routes.

Example case - start point: Iso-Pappilantie 5, Mäntyharju 52700, Finland - end point: Partiotaipale 155, 52700, Finland - it routes to Pyynpolku which is probably not drivable with even Range Rover from the end. See
http://kansalaisen.karttapaikka.fi/kartanhaku/osoitehaku.html?map.x=284&... and you notice road is dotted line. Many times these dotted line roads are not supposed to be used by normal cars.
