It is impossibile to turn positioning off. If you are at home and you try to plan a route, it is not necessary that it is on.

Yes, especially with extras like the weather and Michelin guide, you don't want the GPS unnecessarily sucking up your battery if you are indoors.
It's an unecessary drain on battery resources.

Please, Nokia, give us the option to disable the GPS back.
Hi,
You can disable the positioning (A-GPS, Integr. GPS, Network based..) in: Applications > Location> Positioning > Positioning methods.
cheers,
Ivan
Consider the following (hypothetical) scenario:
- I am browsing the Maps for the town I am currently visiting. From my hotel room, I am searching for sights or other places to go. I certainly don't need GPS while I am not moving, so I'd like to turn it off.
- I have found a good place to go to so I leave the hotel. Now I need guidance or tracking so I would be like to turn GPS back on.
Using the Positioning methods to disable and re-enable the GPS might be a workaround, but it is definitely no solution. A user should not be forced to leave the Maps application (even it keeps running in the background) to switch the GPS receiver on or off.
ok, I agree on that - but then you can turn the positioning off inside the Ovi Maps application > Options > Tools > Turn positioning off.
Good thing is that it's enabled by default on app startup... so if you find yourself in a situation where there's no need to use any positioning methods, you'll just have to do few steps to disable it.
There is no "Options" in v3.03 for S60v5. This thread is referring to this version.
