Key Lock Turns GPS off.... Possibly causing Lag

When the key lock automatically comes on (which needs to be deactivted during use of Maps) the GPS signal is lost. While the key lock doesn't always come on during drive, it does sometimes randomly.

But this problem can be seen best by going in to 'My Position' letting the device get the GPS signal, move about, and then let the keys lock. When you unlock the keys with the slide switch on the left of the phone, you will see GPS is lost.

Once THIS problem happens during drive it causes a HUGE lag of location from location to actual location.

Maybe fixing this problem, would fix the lag problems caused sometimes.

Do you have your "backlight" setting to "system default"? Settings->Navigation->Backlight Settings . Change it to "always on" or "optimised".

It was on Optimised already. When the setting is always on, it doesn't keypad lock and thus doesn't lose the GPS. But surly the fact it loses its GPS is a issue though.

Thank you Ravidavi though for fixing it until the maps team come up with a real fix ;-)

Also, there is a firmware version v12.0.024 (or other v12 number based on your phone locale) available for the N97. That might help fix the bug. Check NSU or FOTA.

Nokia UK have not released FW v12 yet although the rest of the world pretty much had it a few weeks ago.

There is a petitiion over on the Nokia Disussions (Europe) site regarding this. It asks Nokia to sort out the delays we often get in the UK for new FW when compared with the rest of the world.

Yeah checked for the update this morning and its not there yet, I first though its becasue of being on T-Mobile but if its not yet released for any UK phone yet, I won't attempt a debranding ;-)

The only way you can get v12 in the UK is to debrand to the Euro Product code.

I am unbeleivably tempted to switch to this, but trying to hold out till v20 is released for Voda as don't want to void warrantee if v20 sorts major issues.

Several years ago, I bought a branded nokia 3210, it was not able to send the pictures sms, I asked to the nokia service to fix the problem, the answer was that it was not possible because the phone was branded. It was the first and last time that I bougnt a branded phone.
