what about the N96?

Have nokia totally given up on the N96 now?

Like many others I "upgraded" to the N96 from the N95 thinking that the service with regards to new software and updates would be the same or better. It seems nokia have totally written off the N96 and moved straight in to making the N97 what the N96 should have been (with a touch screen). The apps being developed for the N97 would be great on the N96 (plus we're still waiting for a native VoIP like the N95 and E90 plus others).

Nokia, please listen to your faithful followers and answer our prayers, you can make your devices so much more than they already are (a file sync solution like live mesh whould be blooming great too).

I assume there will be a degree of GUI flow down in the future as there has been fomr S60v3.2 apps to S60v3.1.

I upgraded from n95 to n96. I've now upgraded to N97. The n97 is everything the N96 should have been. The thing is the N97 uses a more modern version of the operating system, so I would have thought work would go in to the N97, and then after making things backwards compatible. In a similar way to when windows changed from windows 95, to windows xp, to windows vista.

I hope the N96 does get similar software, otherwise I'm gonna sell it and put the money towards an N97.

N97 is equal to the N96 except that the N97 supports a touchscreen. For sure there are some minor bugfixes Nokia didn't fixed in the "old", "outdated" and no longer supported N96.

I would say that the N97 will be a lot better than the N96 when Nokia have sorted out it's many intial teathing issues. It's spec is better and the combination of touch GUI with future kinetic scrolling (you can try this in Gravity), the 32GB memory and full qwerty keyboard makes it an excellent phone. This does not discount it's many other features, which it shares with the N96 and a numebr of other additions.

If you could, wait for the n98. at the moment the n97 has a lot of bug. I am waiting for the next FW, I hope that it will better.
I am at 60% satisfied with this phone.
