3rd one is very important for 5530 as qwerty is available in landscape mode only.
1. Thanks for the suggestions. Will take it into account.
2. What do you mean by "search by address input fields"? We combined the search for addresses and for places in a one-box-search instead of having different search search methods depending on the object you are looking for.
3. This is actually how it should work on the 5800. Which Nokia phone are you using?
4. The GPS status and accuracy is indicated on the map in bottom right corner. Why would you like to have the number of satellites being shown?
Please note that the 5530 is not supported!
skooks, it's got identical OS to 5800/n97/n97 mini/5230. so it's non supported only politically. also - to use physical qwerty on n97/n97 mini (virtual qwerty is not available on those phones) you have to switch to landscape position as well.
as for 2.
combined search is indeed the problem, how to search for something you don't know - nearest restaurants for example? typing restaurant all the time is quite long work and it seems it won't show all restaurants by typing restaurant.
5800/n97/n97 mini/523 are all built on S60v5, but this does not mean that they are identical in any way shape or form.
As you identify in your post :
"... to use physical qwerty on n97/n97 mini (virtual qwerty is not available on those phones) you have to switch to landscape position as well."
This identifies an initial difference. There will be numerous others. Just becuase two devices are based on the same OS does not mean that their firmware capabilities are the same.

1 Thank you.
2 This is fine if you have the full address or postcode. However, you may only sometimes have a partial address. Perhaps, you may need to first locate the area, then the street name and then the building no. At present, if the postcode is entered, although the correct area is located, there is at present no further opportunity to select street names (which may not have been known (or fully Known) in the first instance) and/ or building no.. There is nothing wrong with the one box idea. However, when searching for addresses (as opposed for services), further
those difference are not major and not really system difference. the input program is the same with some thing turned off on one device and some things turned off on another device.
i don't see any major difference from ovi maps point of view. 5530 might not have physical gps controller, but it's got the same positioning program as other s60v5 devices.
differences are not more than differences between different windows editions. the base system functional is the same.
I'm running Winows Vista x64 which is the same edition as Windows Vista x32 (Windows Vista Ultimate) and yet some apps that are x32 versions will not run on x64. Also don't get me started on the driver side of things. Different phone models may run the same OS but will have different hardware, requiring different drivers, which may not be compatible with certain software.

You talking about different architectures. All S60v5 devices have same ARM architecture, same symbian 9.4 operating system, same s60v5 GUI (slightly differs in realisation, like 5530 listboxes have slightly advanced scrolling, which is addition, not replacing. it's old API + new)
but things i was talking about have nothing to do with those differences. all phones acts in the same way simply due to portrait restriction of ovi maps. it's a good and right things. but the program needs to determine when standard S60 input is on to allow landscape mode to make an ability to use full screen qwerty s60 virtual keyboard
I agree with Jeeves, we need the ability to input a full address, e.g. first line, town and postcode.
The big thing though is having a 'select from contacts' option again, it is an absolute must. I rely on this feature and can't be doing with loading up my contacts, memorising the address details and then re-inputting them into Maps, it's just not practical. Please re-add this feature. It's such a pain in this new version despite the other improvements.
Personally I like the single consolidated search box method, assuming some improvements are in store for it. I can for example just search for a city name, and it will go there. Or I can search just for a street name (with or without the home address #) and it will go there. Or I can search for a business name and it will go there.
In principle this is the best input method ... it's what all of us are used to from using Google/Yahoo maps. However, the Ovi Maps implementation will need some modifications. In no particular order, they are:
I agree with Jeeves that "category" searches need to be implemented in some way.
In addition, fuzzy name recognition needs to be added so that I can search for "williamsberg" and it will give "williamsburg" as one of the search results.
We need a search history!
Contact search. This could be implemented by either searching through contact names when we type a query, or by opening up the contacts list and letting us choose one explicitly.
Fullscreen qwerty input. This is absent from the 5800 ... our only choices are Handwriting, Mini QWERTY, and Alphanumeric.

we really need a Select From Contacts option in the Favourites
