Here's a simple fix for Firefox 3.5. Requires basic knowledge of working with ZIP files and editing text files.

1. Download the plugin from:

http://static.s2g.gate5.de/ovi_maps/OviMaps_2.0.20.2.xpi

2. Rename to .zip and uncompress.

3. Edit install.rdf and replace the following line:

<em:maxVersion>3.2.*</em:maxVersion>

With:

<em:maxVersion>3.5.*</em:maxVersion>

4. Compress the files into a ZIP archive and rename to .xpi. Make sure the files (chrome.manifest and install.rdf) and directories (components, content, META-INF, plugins) are in the root of the archive (i.e. using WinRAR Ctrl+A to select the files and dirs, right click > Add to archive...).

5. In Firefox, select File > Open File... > select the modded XPI package and click Open to install the plugin.

@mbrett: Did the Firefox report any errors in step 5? The well-known trick outlined in post #4 worked for me on 32-bit Windows Vista SP1 + Firefox 3.5.

Post #4 has a link that now brings you to the maps main page rather than the plugin. So at this point neither an updated plugin or the workaround are available, unless someone else has more info?

You have to right click

and click save link as...

And just follow ajk instructions. Its working 100%.

This is the time that many people have their holidays in the Nordic region.

I tried teh change max version and just recieved an error message when I tried to install it. Didn't work for me.

I followed the method described in post #4, edited the rdf file etc. Doing a File->open yielded the following;

The same problem here, signing could not be verified. Seems like the XPI is signed, so any edition we do breaks the signature checks.

I think we can say that in the current state ovi maps is absolutely uselles:

1) Cant' be used with Firefox
2) Many issues with IE8
3) No other browser supported
4) If it works, the core routing engine is heavily flawed

You may need to install MR Tech Toolkit Firefox extension first. I Also use All-in-one Sidebar too (excellent little addition).

All you needed to do is click on the install on maps.ovi.com and select to ignore compatablilty.

After re-start right click on the extension in the extension manager and select "force compatability" or something like that. Re-start Firefox and hey presto it works.

That easy. None of this script modification malarky.

it seems some of you have problems with post number 4 fix, I don't. It just works, using windows XP sp3 and I will give it a try in ubuntu later on.
