Pros: light and friendly GUI, 3D landmarks on the map view, sync with the mobile, suggestion on zoom level (country, state, city street)
Cons: wrong calcution route, lack of Point of interest on the maps, it does use the standard TCP/UDP ports (some ISP blocks the possibility to use the find a place and routing)

I cannot recommend it to plan a long route.

I would like to use it instead of google maps or viamichelin, but It is not always possible, at the moment I can use it only to see the maps

Newbie here so apologies for lack tech. knowledge..at 62 don't ever think I'll make the grade now, but as ever I ramble.
Am I totally stupid or what?
Why release something which isn't a patch on googlemaps (the current readily accessible web based mapping facility) and in comparison with the ordanance survey stuff is just not in the same centuary?
I am also a little p*&&$d off feeling I have been taken for a ride by being sold (a-)GPS as a GPS system when it appears to be terrestial mast based for triangulation info. Might work great if you are in a city, but out here in the wild..completely U.S.!

OVI Maps can use a number of positioning methods:

Location based: Quick fix, phone mast based, location.
A-GPS: Assisted GPS, using a data connection to download form a database which GPS satelites to try to use. Speeds up GPS connection.
GPS: Need I say more.

The GPS connection can be either via internal GPS (If your phone supports this) or via Bluetooth GPS.

To verify which methodds you have enabled go to "GPS Data" and "Positioning Methods"
