Thought this problem was fixed with the latest version, but I have had Sports Tracker stop recording after less than a mile on two seperate bicycle trips today.
Yesterday it recorded a 6+ mile ride without problem.
Running on an E71 in my pocket. Keyboard was locked.

Look for a new version to be released soon as per an article at AllAboutSymbian titled, "The N79 Active and New Sports Tracker"

I'm running v1.78 with no failures over the past two months since I applied this fix: Within the application and during your workout, set your connection to "None" and turn off check for updates. I've also read advice to switch screen views from main after beginning a workout.

I had the same problem on my n78 a while ago.
Installing the 1.82 version (see link above) did it for me.
Don't know why it isn't an official update yet...
After this update the option for enabling the pedometer is gone ..... Is there anyway to get it back?
@nita13, a new version of Sports Tracker is to be released very, very soon. The guys at the Sports Tracker website told us that the new release will be compatible with all Nokia handsets already running the mobile app.

I also upgraded to 1.82 and found the pedometer lost. I decided that I needed the pedometer more than the maps (while jogging I can't read the map anyway) so I deinstalled NST 1.82 and installed 1.78 again. And got my pedometer back.
But, as additional bonus, I still have the background maps as well with 1.78! Only for the same geographic area which I used during using 1.82 but still... Obviously it loaded the maps and saved them in black/white somewhere into the phone which even 1.78 is able to display but deinstalling 1.82 didn't remove - so they must have prepared the maps integration to NST for some versions back already :-)
After having severe troubles on my N95 8GB lately - GPS signal can't be found, app crashes or stops recording - I learned in several blog posts that version 1.82 should fix some bugs.
However this link http://research.nokia.com/research/projects/SportsTracker/index.html always leads me to the normal Sports Tracker download page, where I can only find the 1.78.
Any hints?

This is because the Nokia Research Sports Tracker website has been removed. Probably becuase they are close to releasing Nokia Sports Tracker 2.0. You are correct the link now diverts to the Nokia Sports Tracker website instead.

If you start nokia maps and eiither have it set to check for updates automatically or manually check for updates you will be informed that a new version is available v.2.05. (This was the case for my N95 8Gb running NST v1.82 in the UK anyway).

That was great timing last time. Just as I reported the bug the NST v2.05 was released solving the problem that it stops recording or crashes all together. It works much mor stable on my N95 8GB now.
However, it now is sometimes very slow finding satellites. I can speed up the process be restarting NST a couple of times. It looses the signal sometimes too. But I definitely see improvement.
Thanks though for constantly improving the service. I will stay tuned.
