Sports Tracker stops tracking

I'm really frustrated.

I went for a long drive yesterday with the intention of tracking a lot of unchartered roads and tracks here in Syria. Everything looked to be working fine... throughout the journey whenever I checked the Nokia BT GPS receiver (the 4 series little keyring one) all the LEDs were flashing the right colours.

When I got back home I went to stop the tracking... the status in Sports Tracker was amber, but the BT GPS receiver was showing it was connected OK. I stopped the tracking and reviewed the data... only the first half of the journey had recorded!

What's going on here?

I'm really annoyed. This shouldn't happen at all, but if it does can the phone at least give me some warning, like a beep every 10 seconds to draw my attention? I have it set in power save mode to conserve battery life, so I don't have the screen in view and frankly shouldn't have to keep checking it every few minutes to see if it's working.

This has been happening a lot in walk mode, but it's the first time it's now happening in 2 mode (which I use to record my drives). Again, I think it has something to do with interruptions either in the BT connection between phone and sensor or with interuptions in the GPS signal and then the software not being able to pick up from the last good data point?

mbret... before you say it... no, I've not tried re-installing. I really shouldn't have to regularly uninstall and re-install software to keep it working... if I enjoyed doing that then I'd get a Windows OS phone.

Yes, I've noticed this as well. I was tracking a cycle ride a couple of days ago and after 30 miles I made a voice call. When I reached the end of the ride at 45 miles ST had crashed at the moment I made the call.

I guess this is a known bug that will be fixed ....?

Don't think so... it might correspond to when I got out of the car to take a photo, so may have gone out of range of the BT GPS?

It might also have been something to do with location tagger... since geotagging isn't incorporated into my phone's firmware, i have to run this app to geotag, but it's not very stable and i find that it stops a lot. i have a feeling that sometimes when this app stops it disrupts the comms between the phone and BT GPS?

I have the same problem from time to time. I'm afraid it has nothing with Sports Tracker. I tried to check the fix with builtin "GPS data" application and it didn't show the correct position despite the established bluetooth connection. I think that the problem lies somewhere deeper inside implementation of bluetooth stack or somewhere in positioning services.

I have the latest version of Sportstracker and i'm desperate to go back to the older version. This version has stopped working on me 3 times now, one time during my best run ever. I'm using a 6210 navigator with the latest firmware (3.25) i didn't get any calls or messages during the runs. I hope you guys fix this sooen because i really like this app and I use it a lot......if it works that is.

can relate to the frustration! i did a tough MTB ride at the weekend and managed to get the whole thing tracked, despite making calls and sending SMSs along the way... but I had performed a reset a couple of days earlier.

i had to say it because it's not identifying the cause or treating the root of the problem, but as a short term fix you could try a reset and see if it helps?

My setup is Nokia N81+ST2.06 + Wintec GPS (with a logger)

I've run into the same proble a couple of times. Last Sunday, I reset the phone just before the run, anticipating trouble. I started tracking only to find after a few minutes that the ST only managed to register the first 100m or so. So I stopped the workout, the app froze for a minute but then resumed, I started another workout and, luckily :] it did 1km+.
But I wasn't satisfied: my plan for the day was 15km+ so I gave it one more try and this time it DID work. I ran the last of my workout without any major glitches, almost the way it should be, although it did freeze for a minute during the run. Then I switched BT on the phone and GPS receiver off, and later on again, and ST managed to continue tracking.
My general imperssion is that it's not necessarily related to picture taking, since I did take a few pics on my run. I did not get or make any calls, so I can't say anything about that.
ST is a GREAT app, I love it, in fact, I think it's keeping me using Symbian, but it needs just a bit of work on stability.

Bug can be reproduced easily. Walk away from GPS with phone untill coordinate readings stop changing. Wait there couple of seconds (about 10-20 sec) and go back before (b) signs starts blinking. Phone never finds BT gps again, not even if devices lay side by side for hours. If you wait too long and (b) starts blinking the phone will find gps again. And also if you go back BT GPS too early it will not freeze.

For me the same happens with ST and Nokia maps and most likely all apps using the positioning framework.

indeed, i'm looking to getting a new phone soon to replace my N95... it's ST and Maps that are keeping me with nokia at the moment, but ST is not reliable enough (and i've now purchased a garmin GPS so that i can utilise openstreetmap data) and i continue to have issues with maps.

so... iphone or N97? i see tomtom is coming for the iphone and there should be no issues with mac compatability with the iphone...

harware wise, the camera and size is the only thing stopping me from going the iphone route... if they could match nokia's 5MP i'd switch.

w/ regards to your reply to try and reset. i usually turn my phone off every night and hence i don't think a reset will make a big difference. I'm thinking of switching to iphone as well and like you i'm a mac user. What comparable program/service is available on the iphone ?
