Through a comedy of errors (don't ask) I now have 6 users in NST on my mobile. There does not seem to be a way to delete them. I've tried deleting the config.dat file to force creation of a new one, but the users are still there.
Any suggestions for how to delete users on the mobile?
What phone are you using?
On my N95 8Gb I have a Sports Tracker folder on both the phone local drive and the 8Gb flash drive. Both contain a Config.dat file.
Have you done many workouts?
If not you could try uninstalling Nokia Sports Tracker and deleting the Sports Tracker folder and then re-installing NST.
In NST, if you go to settings / Users and sel;ect a user what do you see on the options menu?
I had the same issue. It is quite confusing how the user database is managed. Also if you reinstall the application and you want to keep your former workouts, it will automatally create a user.
I am also keen to get an authentic answer to this question.
The device is an N85.
The only Sports Tracker folder is on the microSD -- nothing on the local phone drive.
I have 19 workouts stored, so I don't really want to start from scratch if I don't have to. Seems like I should just be able to delete a user through the menus, though I'm glad to try editing the config.dat file (tried it, didn't work).
When I go to settings / Users, the only options are Open or Exit. If I open the user, the only option is Exit.
Does this mean none of your users are paired with the NST website?
Just upgraded my N95 8Gb from FW 30.0.018 to 31.0.015, which appears to have NST 1.70 within it. I then upgraded to NST 1.82 to regain the maps and stability and noticed that I now had two Users. One was "Joe Blogs", or whatever the default name is and the other was "Unknown User". I have changed the "Joe Bloggs" to my name and info and re-paired it with the NST website, but am unable to remove the other.
Naturally, it would be nice if this process was as simple as selecting a user and deleting it. Until then...
The information we need to edit is on the memory card.
First, open NST on your mobile and "unpair" your users in Settings>Users-Options. Exit the application, turn off your mobile and remove your ext. memory card.
Next, Using an external card reader, look within the folder named SportsTracker for the file "config.dat". Copy this file to your desktop.
Next, using a basic editor (Notepad if on PC, TextEdit on Mac) open config.dat. You'll notice that there are two lines of data allocated to each NST user. Highlight the line containing the username you want to delete as well as the line directly above that. Completely delete the highlighted lines of data and save the file.
Next, drop your newly saved config.dat file back in the SportsTracker folder, replacing the original.
Reinstall your ext memory to your mobile, power up and restart NST.
Note: If you delete ALL the lines within the config.dat file, then the default "Joe Average" user profile will regenerated automatically when you start the app again.
Note: Also within the SportsTracker folder on your memory card are all your workouts, each within its own .dat file. I like to back these up by copying them to a folder on my desktop. You can identify specific workouts by opening each .dat file in an editor and reading the first two lines of code for the name of your workout. Once identified, you can safely delete ANY of the .dat files (save config.dat) which are associated with the user accounts you're attempting to purge.
Copied the config.dat file from the "Sports Tracker" folder on the 8Gb memory to the "Documents" folder on the 8Gb memort and then deleted the original. Re-booted the phone and re-started NST.
2 copies of "Sports Tracker" folder, one on the Phone drive and one on the 8Gb drive, bith contain config.dat.
Deleted both and re-booted phone. Now have 3 users, but only one config.dat file. This is in the "Sports Tracker" folder on the phone
Now tried deleting both and installing one new empty config.dat file in the "Sports Tracker" folder on the phone.
Still have 3 users. only Joe has the option of pairing. Anyone know how to unpair all users from my NST account. I assume the two Unknown Users are the previous paired users (me) on this phone.
You shouldn't delete config.dat file, you should be editing it as I said above.
I know there's two instances of a folder named SportsTracker, you only need to edit the files on the memory card (or 8G drive for mbrett), ignore that anything exists on the phone memory drive.
Back up all the SportsTracker files from your memory card to a new folder on your desktop, then remove all the .dat workout files in the SportsTracker folder on your memory card, leaving only config.dat, log.txt and the useless kml and download folders.
Now edit the config.dat like I instructed above. If you must return your backed up workout .dat files, insure they are not workouts created by user names you're wanting to purge.
I replicated the issue and tested the information I wrote above, twice now. Backing up my data, creating three new usernames, then deleting all my workouts, editing out all users from config.dat, resulting in a fresh NST app with only Joe Average as a user with no workouts, default activity set. Then I returned all my backed up files and replaced the config.dat with my back up. Everything restored perfectly: Username, Activity set and all workouts.
-edit- I realize I'm testing this successfully on a different model with a removable memory drive. Perhaps your (mbrett) model's 8G memory drive is structured with restrictive file permissions.

It is a bit frustrating that I can't keep the old workouts and end up with only one "User".
Don't have the option to unpair the two off "Uknown User", which probably come from the workout files that were still in the folder.
Is there any way that I can edit the workout files to change the user in the workouts the single user I want to end up with? This would be my ideal as I use the target option with the previous best workout time for my 6 routes.
Do I need to delete the routes aswell then. That will also be a bit of a pig. I've tried to get advice from the NST Team via the NST website, but no response.
I don't have a clue on how to edit anything within the workout .dat files. All I know is that opening them in an editor allows you to identify the associated workout. Then you can sort out and save only the workouts you want to keep. I wouldn't return workout .dat files to the SportsTracker folder which were created by users you're trying to purge. btw- If you take screenshots via the NST feature or export workouts in KML, CSV, GPX, etc, you should save them in a new folder on your 8G drive and not within the SportsTracker folder.
Routes is another pain. I have suggested, asked and discussed synchronization issues here, through the website and feedback channels to no avail. Bi-directional synching of key NST data (routes, user info) just makes sense.
Occasionally, I have received some from-the-top answers at the NST Fan Group within the website. However, I'm waiting for NST v2.0 before pressing hard for solutions to any of these aging issues; App and web service included.
