On where this is going it the future. The N79 Active is still available on-line, but now with an "archived" software. Everyone seems to love the phone, software and service, but the future doesn't look good.
You need to remember the news a few months ago about the splitting of Sports Tracker form Nokia as such as the product was to be handed to the two main developers of the product to form part of their new company Sports Tracking Technologies. The plan was that this would occur towards the end of this year making 2010 the year of Sports Tracking Technologies rather than Nokia Sports Tracker.
It hs not been made at all clear as to what the time frame looks like for the conversion/transfer of users, if this will occur, but the end result sounded like we will end up with a Sports Tracker product provided by Sports Tracking Technologies

Good news!
I’ve worked to develop my own homebrew solution to catch the signal from a compatible HRM belt transmiting at 5KHz (I used the Polar T31 belt), and so, I calculate the heartbeat per minute (I used a PIC microcontroller) and send the data to the Nokia Sport Tracker via Bluetooth (After several hours testing several data stream, I finally dicovered the protocol :) .
The project name is Gym4Us and it will be realesed as an open source project. From now, if you have a Gym4Us box, you can use your 5KHz compatible belt with the Nokia Sport Tracker (v1.83 to v.2.06).
More information will be released at: http://marciowb.net
See my last workout (with HRM information) where I used Gym4Us with NOkia Sports Tracker at:

Hi Marcio,
Looks fascinating, are you hoping to mass-produce this? I think there would be a lot of interest in it. I'd definitely buy one if reasonably priced.
Cheers,
Chris.
