Will Sports Tracking Technologies receive any funding from Nokia?
If they don't it does mean that Nokia is killing ST and some other company is picking it up. It will be just one more company providing this kind of software.
And then it doesn't make sense for Nokia to sell the N79 Active, because they don't have any software for it.
In the end I think it is bad news, but not unexpected.
Well they do have endomondo in the OVI Store and have had for a while.
Prefer Sports Tracker myself, but makes you wonder.
Hope they do keep some kind of link with Sports Tracker.

Explains why we can't get 2 words out of them on here...
I'm really wondering what will happen to Sports Tracker. But maybe the new company can re-invent this service. There is still room for improvement and maybe they can can achieve that the Polar nelt will be sold separately?
Just dreaming ...

I recommend following ...
- make sports tracker compatible with any BT enabled heart beat monitor belt without lock-in to some specific phone model
- port Sport Tracker sotware to iphone and put if for sale via Apple Store, also keep S60 compatibility in order to extend potential user space.
I would be willing to pay this software as long as I am allowed to select
a) which phone I am running it
b) I am able to use heart rate belts etc. add-on gears compatible with any of phones I am using with the software
I am one of those soon ex-Nokia phone users who is going to switch Iphone simply because getting tired Nokia not to understand value of good end-user services that creates end-user "stickiness" (sports tracker being good example of such service which value to create loyal user base that returns Nokia failed to understand ns. "sis
It's not a simple job to port to iPhone, the iPhone insists on use of a totally different language and development environment to, well, everything else (apart from the Mac).
That said, I am thinking about starting my own open-source clone of Sports Tracker for Android platforms once I get my hands on a Samsung i7500 - I'm done with Nokia, and there's no way I'm prepared to allow Apple to decide what network I use, what apps I use, what apps I can write, etc.
Hey Sprouty,
I still bought a Nokia N79 (not the Active Edition, because I already had a HRM), just for the NST. If there was a similiar service at Android, I would have bought the HTC Hero.
So, I hope such a service will come to Android, because Android is the future, imo. I don't have any programming skills, but I have professional testing skills and sometimes good ideas. If you want, I can help you.

I notice two things.
First if Sportstracker is no longer supported by Nokia, the current users will experience a change (negative ?) in support of their phone (which is a combination of hardware and software = functionality).
Will the current sportstracker continue working (including the website) ? Or do they need to pay to keep the functionality they have today ?
Second is they will be offered a new service which is potential a more complete and extended service then the current tooling. However there might be addtional costs involved which was not the case in the past.
Whenever selecting a phone is determined more and more by the total function of the device, especial in case of smartphones. The function (read added value for the user) of the device is a matter of hardware functionality and the available software. Personally do I think you should not remove software from the ofering. Either keep constant or extent is the preferrred scenario.
I know this sounds negative, but as a fan of the sportstracker application does it feel that way !

What you wrote above reflects my feelings too. However, we have to remember that ST was only available through betalabs, it hasn't been an official part of our phones.
But yes, betalabs has given allowd us to taste goodies that at least I will miss. ST is one. StepCounter is another. It seems it has ben frozen and it will never be released for E66.
