Participants of the valentine's NST contest apparently will receive the Polar strap. Hopefully this is good news for individual production of just the HR monitor.

I tried spreading the word with a few posts on my blog and with comments on other websites.

I didn't think to mention it in this forum, I assumed all here were in-the know.

My mistake, sorry.

Anyway, all participants receiving a belt was a brilliant decision by Nokia.

Now, if they would just contact me I'd be :-) !

Like the rest of you I've no extra menu in my settings.

I've read the thread over on the Polar forums, like the rest I wish they'd release it for the rest of us to use. I think they'd get quite a lot of business out of it.

If a N95 isn't going to be compatible, then what will be? Unless, of course, preparing new builds of NST is what has the NST Dudes working overtime.

There are 40 some HR belts going out to the participants of the Track a Heart contest with no disclaimer that they wont be able to use them.

My guess is that we're in for a series of software updates.

So far, 5800 and N79 are the only confirmed compatibles.

Doesn't lessen the point, unfortunately.

I looked through all the entries before the closing and noticed some participants entered multiple times. Some entered after the closing, some after the winners were announced.

Shocking, though, was that more people didn't enter and even more disappointing was that not everybody who joined the competition group ever submitted a drawing. You can bet there were a lot of folks banging their heads for that mistake.

The competition had some exposure on some high traffic blogs. Some of those blogs had comments from readers that it was a silly idea, waste of time, "who cares", etc. I didn't get it because the N79 is a wonderful handset on its own.

Nokia don't give away things like this very often and this competition's challenge was a rather simple task. The N97 Design a Widget competition was far more challenging and had thousands of entries.

Draw a heart and win a N79 Active? It's friggin' awesome!

I just started with sport (running) a few weeks ago. And I really like those tiny technical gadgets which keep me motivated ;-) So I'm here to spend some money as soon as the belt is available to the public and compatible with N95 8GB.

Hopefully Nokia (or Polar) will listen to us ...

Now I've tried to reinstall 2.05 and 2.06 several times and no hidden menu pops up or appears in the sports tracker program or settings for polar for nokia. I can connect to the polar for nokia through the bluetooth menu on the phone, but no heart rate shows when using the sports tracker. Anyone know how it should be?

No word from the developers. No word from marketing. No word on distribution.

Here's the thing...

The participants of the "N79 Track a Heart" contest each won a Polar for Nokia appliance. Prizes are being distributed through a 3rd party marketing and promotion company called Luxus in Finland. Luxus told me that they are waiting for a new production round from Nokia/Polar because they do not have the inventory to take care of the participants of the contest. When asked for an ETA, I was told to be quietly patient. It's been 4 weeks since prizes were announced.

No word on the N79 Active Edition sales figures for the three existing test markets, (Finland, Norway, S.Africa). No word new test cites. No word on Polar for Nokia production and distribution plans.

This seems to be a top secret project.

So, barring official announcements, delivery of the contest prizes will at least confirm a new factory order.

Just have to keep hoping and waiting to see if Nokia ever get round to releasing it:

a) in the UK
b) separately to phones and make it compatible with the N95 8Gb or maybe my next phone by the time it actually happens.

How did you made the belt in searchable mode. It there a button or anything that needs to be done with the polar belt to be able to pair the belt againt the phone?

I'm thinking about the regular bluetooth menu, not the sportstracker polar pairing procedure.

The N79 Active Edition I won in the NST 'Track a Heart' contest was delivered this morning.

I can confirm, as margido said above, that the belt becomes searchable only if you are wearing it.

N79 Active is not yet available in Australia for sale, but as soon as it is, I am guessing I should be able to order a BT HR belt as a spare part. Any thoughts on that?

But by the looks of it I need a special version of NST to make it work with the belt. I can't see the the pairing option in my 5800 and NST 2.06.

Maybe the Polar bods are wondering if it a BT HRM would harm sales of existing higher priced products with the some of the NST functionality. If they will not is the standard open and can other manufacturers develop a product? If not I can see the iNob crowd getting ahead on this one which would really suck.

Nokia could make good money from the sale of the "Polar for Nokia" bluetooth HRM as an accessory for use with Nokia Sports Tracker, but the route they are taking at present is a risky one.

Below is an example of what else is out there which could take the wind from beneath the wings of NST and the "Polar for Nokia" HRM as this is available and has an open source SDK for incorporation of it's recorded data into 3rd party apps for PC, mobile and live srteaming. If Nokia continue to refuse to formally release to the world if the "Polar for Nokia" will ever be available to the general public as an accessory for Nokia Sports Tracker users they could/will loose the advantage they could presently have.

I have tried NST 2.00 on the E75 with the polar for nokia and it works perfect.

I hope that Nokia will release the polar for nokia as a separate accessory soon, so people don't have to do like me buying the N79 active to get the polar for nokia to use it with another phone (and then sell the N79 phone)...

I agree, but people already know about iPod and all the apps it has. Not as many people know about the soon the be OVI Store with numerous Nokia apps. People know about iTunes, less people know about Nokia Music Store, but I accept may have heard of "Come with Music". People know about the iPod Nike accessory, but even less people know about Nokia Sports Tracker or even that their phones a capable of doing this sort of thing. This all reduced Nokia's market share. To keep the people they need to gain the people in the first place and if they don't make the feasable accessories available to those who are aware of them they could further reduce their market share.

NST could so easily be a battle winner with things like Apple. I'm not saying it would win the war with the iPhone but it could certainly pull a lot of consumers presently using the Nike iRun. I prefer NST but would like the idea of having the phone I want and the bluetooth HRM as my phone supports bluetooth and NST supports the bluetooth HRM.

If there is a physiscal reason why Nokia can't make it compatible with other phones it would be nice if they said. If they are still using the N79 Active as a mass trial it would be nice if they said. It's the not knowing that killing me (a little over dramatic, but you know what I mean).

Funny, I can see the N79AE and the notice for an April 20th availability, but when I try to add the item to a cart it says pre-order only.

It is bloody annoying if you want to spend 400 Euro and nobody lets you.

You have to remember the Nokia Polar Pairing has taken a long time and the same may be required for a cadence monitor.

I won one of this belt and it's true that there was nothing other than the belt in the packet.

A woman contacted me for my delivery and she asked for my IMEI code. Perhaps to get an application signed by my IMEI.

I took some pictures because I intend to sell the belt.
The belt not work with my N95.
apparently it's works only with Nokia N79.
And as has been say it turns on automatically when you wear it.

Thank you for understanding. Sorry if I was rude or harsh, but privacy is something we all need to respect to the point and I just feel very strongly about that.

I did not compete in "Track a Heart" competition, but I managed to get a HRM by a Nokia contact in Finland. She told me that Nokia still had some on stock in Finland, so I ordered one by a Nokia Service Center.

But, I still don't have a HRM capable NST version..... still waiting.... And soon I will get a N79 from someone for testing. So, If I'm not able to get a working version for my N78, I will buy a N79 if my tests are positive

This morning the girl from Nokia sent me 2 files for install the Heart Rate Belt.
In fact it's a sort of patch and the second file is the install file for Nokia Sport Tracker.
Well it's work fine. It's like we can see on the video for the competition for this belt.
It's kie on the N79 there is a map during the exercice and there is your heart rate.

i got a Polar WearLink+ Bluetooth for Nokia from my local Polar distributeur for testing propose. I ask them because i want to write an artikel about for an magazin and for my blog. See www.pietschandfriends.de, but it is german... Unfortunately they can't provide me with an N79 so they sent me only the transmitter with strap.

Does anyone could help me get it working on a Nokia 5800 or N96? From SportsTracker support Team i did not get an answer, an from the "normal" Nokia support Team was also nothing in my mailbox.

Hi,
the belt supports bluetooth. At the moment, there are no bluetooth compatible heartrate monitors avaible. But with Bluetooth "Low Enegy" (is similar to ZigBee) is a very interessting opportunity for future products, i thing. But it will need same time to see firt bluetooth compatible HRMs from Polar or other manufacturer like Suunto, Garmin or Timex...

i've had a N97 in a week and would love to use the mobile while biking (as I did with my 5800, N95 ect) and polar for Nokia equipment would make that experience even better.

So what the news so far?

..."Interestingly, I noticed in the wizard if connection fails it said "If you do not have a belt, you can buy one from sportstracker.nokia.com". So I expect they'll start selling them at some point!"...
seems like that statement from Nokia is only for future hopeful souls - there is still no information on sportstracker...

I received my polar hrm belt today, but can't seem to find a solution for the e66. Installed the latest 2.06 version, but no luck. Any suggestions will be kindly appreciated :-)

The heart rate monitor (HRM) is at this moment only supported by the Nokia N79. All the other phone do not have the option to pair your HRM with the phone.

there are only 3 solutions at this moment:

1: Try to get Nokia Sports Tracker 2.00. That's the only one with HRM support for all phones.
2: Try to contact Luxus. That's a Finnish company who supported Nokia with the distibution of the N79 Active Edition packages some people won because of running in a contest in Stockholm.
3: Buy a Nokia N79 (like I did :P )

Well, I waited for months to get a better understanding whether the BT belt will be generally available and the result is indeed disappointing.
Most likely I will invest next week into a Polar watch with G1 GPS module. It's a pity. For Nokia, I think. They missed a chance to create a better brand stickiness. But it's good for Polar, though.

I am a Brit, currently living in the Philippines and own Nokia N95 8GB that I am very pleased with.

Pity the 'Polar' Bluetooth4Nokia not sold separately (and work with Sports Tracker on N95?)

Since Nokia Philippines, only sell N79, not N79AE, and seems neither 'Polar' or 'Nokia' will sell just the 'Bluetooth for Nokia' transmitter, I gave up and bought a Polar F7 Watch (in USA, for $120) that comes with Polar WearLink Belt and T31 Coded Transmitter.

This works with the Gym Equipment, so I can get Cardio Fit and do 'Fat Burn', whilst knowing what my Heart Rate is, and can slow down or stop if it getting too high as advised by my Cardiologist.

All the Data is stored on the F7 Watch, and one can 'upload; via Polar 'Weblink'. This software application, installed on a PC, is set to 'listen' mode, whilst you navigate to the Polar Watch's 'File' Menu, then to 'Send' submenu, and press 'OK' button. The Polar watch, then starts 'chirping' tones, that is picked up by Microphone of PC, t(hat you already held near to Polar Watch, prior to pressing 'OK'). The Polar Weblink shows the progress of the received data via this 'audio' link (takes 30 seconds or so - probably depends how much HRM data?).

Once complete, "1 new file[s] were sent to Polar Personal Trainer. See log file for details." the Polar Weblink, up loads to your enrolled Account @ https://www.polarpersonaltrainer.com/

Would have much preferred using the Bluetooth for Nokia and the Sports Tracker Application and view the data on http://sportstracker.nokia.com/nts/dashboard/index.do

Before I make do with the F7 and Polar webllink, I would consider getting my son, to buy me a Nokia N79 Active, in the UK, to get such 'Polar' Bluetooth4Nokia Transmitter.

Q: Is there any way to obtain, and or modify the correct Sports Tracker software and or 'patches', such that the Heart Rate Monitor function will work on my Nokia N95 8GB?

If the answer to that, is an emphatic 'NO WAY' (unless Nokia are prepared to produce customized version with my IMIE), then I will give up considering such purchase. I could have my son buy it and send the lot, and simply use the N79 when I want to use HRM function. I then have Polar WearLink Chest Belt + Bluetooth Transmitter, and Nokia N79 (and my Nokia N95).

I would rather stick to the Polar T31 Coded transmitter, and buy a'Sensaris' module, that converts T31 to Bluetooth - compatible with many makes/models of Phones.
