Yes we want it back .....pedometer was really good to have, do not want to use another programe and run 2 to get the steps...
I am using both but I'd really like to have the pedometer back at least for walking
I'd like to second that. Also, I updated from an earlier version of NST (1.7X) to 2.05 and my steps are gone! :(
Hi guys,
I ask this in the most respectful context, please regard this as constructive discussion:
Why do you personally find a pedometer metric beneficial to your workout analyzations?
We already have distance/speed/time a calorie counter and now a heart rate measuring option. What difference does the amount of total steps make to your workout? I'm just curious.
I run 80 to 100km a week and track a lot of metrics beyond what ST records through other methods. However, I don't know another runner who uses a pedometer.

Well, I was already a bit used to have that metric, so now I face the fact that I have to be running the Nokia Step Counter (which is great for a "whole day" use, but won't tell me how many steps made a walk), and Nokia Sports Tracker for measuring speed and mapping to the map.
Personally, I would really like to have all together again. It was something that encouraged me to walk a bit more. Not all of us can run 80km a week ;)
I Agree, Please bring Step Counting and Pedometer Features Back. Keep up the great work NST Team.
I just got official word that an updated version of SportsTracker v2.06 will be made available within days which will add Steps Counter back into the fray.

Ain't this power of community great, huh? Due to several requests we now smuggled the step counter code back in for devices having necessary sensor on-board.
Like David already revealed, update is on it's way, it'll be out within few days.
Sorry for the delay, we just wanted to do few extra tests.
BR, NST dudes
thanks NSTteam! - will be expecting 2.06 :)
THANK YOU NST Team, Beta Labs Team, and everyone in this community :)
I'm new to Sports Tracker, so I haven't seen what the old pedometer was like.
I'm certainly no expert, but having just started looking at electonic fitness aids, it seem a lot of them have foot pods that give a measure of "cadence". This is the number of step per minute divind by 2. As I understand it, it is most efficient to aim for between 85 and 95. So if the pedometer gave that information rather than just the total number of steps over a session, that would be additional data that the GPS speed/distance cannot give.
However, I'm not sure how accurate the phone will be as 'normal' foot pods are obviosly worn on the foot, which is probably not appropriate for a phone if you want it kept in one piece!
The pedometer/Step Counter, as the subject of this thread, is a feature of SportsTracker, as well as a separate Nokia Beta app. Functionality of such is only available for Nokia handset models which include the necessary accelerometer.
Accuracy of the Step Counter versus foot pods depends mostly on how the phone is worn on the user's person.

2.06 Installed but step counting functions unavailible on my N95 :(
Workout summary shows steps as 0, 0/min.
you may have to go to activitries, walking (or running), set enable pedometer to yes
I just checked this this morning and it *does* count steps; 1.82, or 2.05 workouts, though, won't have step counts

Version v2.06 (S60 3.1) 23-03-2009
Hi all it IS in v2.06. Direct download of the N82/N95 8gb version fixed it for me. Peace.
I upgraded SportsTracker to 2.06 on my E66, but there is no option to enable pedometer.
I don't have StepCounter installed as there is no E66 version of it as far as I know. Is it so that SportsTracker uses StepCounter to give the step information and pedometer is not included in the menu if StepCounter has not been installed?
Markus
I downloaded v2.06 for the N95 last night and the enable pedometer option is there....

Hi,
the automatic update didn't worked for me. I uninstalled Sports-Tracker and Step-Counter and then reinstalled both applikations with PC-Suite. Now it works fine. The menue option "Pedometer" is shown.
During the workout the display shows the steps and in the summery of my workout the number of steps is shown.
Umm.
This has been the n-th time somebody is requesting, pleading, going bent knees to Enable SportTracker & StepCounter to work on E66.
Well, I am no symbian expert, but is that this hard to get this feature working? If it is, can the NST dev team please post a message to this effect, so that E66 folks can rest in peace?
Some reasons for having the Step counter feature:
1) GPS fix may take considerable time (2 to 3 minutes) w/o Agps.
2) I liked to keep track of how much of casual walk I managed in a day. This is mostly indoors where GPS fix is impossible. Step counter in my 5500sport was ideal for this.
3) GPS drains the battery, while the pedometer doesn't.
Hopefully the NST dev team will bestow the E66 folks' wishes.
Thanks in advance,
rhari!

Step Counter is back on NST 2.06 on my N95 8GB. But I needed to download the latest version from the Internet, the built-in update function installed a 2.06 w/o step counter. Strange but true ;-)

@mbrett
go to sportstracker.nokia.com, go to download, when you select the N95-8gb or any N95, the file you'll download has the word "STEPS" in the name, please verify you're installing that file.
If that is the file you've installed and you don't see the pedometer, check the "Walking" activity (settings/activities/walking) definition and make sure the "Enable pedometer" is there and enabled
Strange, the download site looks indeed different now. I also downloaded a version with STEPS in the file name but I can't find this version on the NST page right now.

Not sure if the version which is availble now for the N95 8GB from the NST website includes the step counter or not. But luckily I found the version I use (w/ step counter) in my laptop's trash bin.
Leave a note with your mail address here if you need it (already sent to mbrett).

N95 8GB (30.0.018)
The OTA update version downloaded within NST is Sportstracker.sisx.
The present version downloadable from the NST website when selecting N95 8Gb is SportsTracker_31_v206.sisx.
The file we need and whic upD8R downloaded form the website previously is SportsTracker_STEPS_31_v206.sisx.
It is slightly bigger and actually includes the Step Counter as suggested by "STEPS" in the name.
Just been playing about on the NST website download page and . . . .
Select N95 and you get SportsTracker_STEPS_31_v206.sisx
Select N95 8Gb and you get SportsTracker_31_v206.sisx
Select N95-3 NAM and you get SportsTracker_STEPS_31_v206.sisx
I assume this is a mistake on the NST website. Otherwise they just hate my phone. WHY!!!
@upD8R Thanks for the file. Works great.

Please put back the stepcounter I had 205 on my n95 8gb after upgrade to 206 it did'nt work anymore and it worked fabulous in 205 on my telephone with the firmware I have on it.
Can I put back the 205 version or is the download site not supporting it anymore. Other optioms to get it back? Load the n82 one??? Please advise, thanks Jacques Maas
ps I loaded the n82 one and give it a try I am now able to enable the pedometer, I'll let you hear if it works.
I disabled the automatic upgrade.
The Step Counter within NST did not exist within v2.05 and was returned within v2.06 as is discussed within these forums. As stated in the first post in this thread the pedometer dissapeared from the activites definition since 1.82.
The N95 8Gb version on the NST download does not have the Step Counter. You need to download the version associated with the N95 and N95-3 NAM to get the version with "STEP" included in the installation file name. This works fin on the N95 8Gb. Haven't found out why these two version exist on the download page but they do.
There is a seperate Step Counter application insatallable onto Nokia phones from Betalabs. I beleive some people have had issues with this and NST, but re-installs seem to sort it in most cases.

Ok the N82 206 version is counting steps and seems to work correctly.
Also together with the step counter application.
hey mbrett just tried the N95-3 NAM version, but the pedometer not working, now installing simple N95 version, and gonna give it a try.
N95 version with STEPS included not working too :(
Then I disable the pedometer, everything works just fine, sad, very sad :(
