Now I saw that Gravity has an option to put Swype on Split Screen.
Ovi Store should be upgraded to support Swype on split screen mode?

Glad you figured out your issue. Not all applications will support the split-view. This is more a limitation of particular applications and Symbian Anna. When it's available from the App, you should have an easy way to enable it in Swype.

Are you on S^3 Anna? Delete the 2 apps that say "conversations" from the application manager on your phone.
Conversation_appl and Conversation_server I think.
At least that fixed it for me after updating to Anna!

No split screen in notes
Hey Bolzero,
Symbian Anna does not support split-screen input in Notes, but if I remember correctly, this will be supported in Belle. Keep a check on Nokia and the Ovi Suite for updates.

Why is Split screen not working in dictionary(mobile system version 7.02), in file manager while renaming and finding a file,in nimbuzz and other application.

That it works in some, but not all apps is a Nokia-firmware issue, not a Swype-issue. Cf post #6 above there are hope for changes on some apps in Belle.

Well, this is what happened to me:
- I had Swype 1 installed on my N8 with Symbian Anna in Italian.
- Installed Swype 2, no keyboard opens when trying to write.
- Removed Swype 2 and reinstalled with the telephone set in English mode, still no keyboard.
- Removed Swype 2 and tried to reinstall Swype 1 from Ovi Store in English, does not install.
- Reinstalled Swype 1 in Italian, it works but I have no more the split screen mode, even in applications that supported it (e. g. the search widget or typing messages).
So it seems some misconfiguration happened that stops split screen from working with Swype 1. What might it be?

Did you select the "Symbian 3" button and not the "Symbian Anna" button for download?

I selected Symbian Anna and tried the clean-up, no way. Unless I have to remove some files that are hidden from the Symbian file manager.

Also tried this when Swype failed installation on E:, and did not solve the problem. Installation of 1.0 succeeded when I switched the language back to Italian after having failed in English, and this happened twice. I must note that in this same condition I had installed 1.0 on F: and had the same problem as now (no split screen).

Not even that, I have a UK country variant (although I am in Italy, I don't know how I got that but the good thing is that I got Anna one month earlier). Disabling Swype, split screen works correctly. But at this point I am unsure if Swype 1 supported split screen. I seem to remind that I used swype input in split screen mode until I installed Swype 2.

I'm guessing here, but it might be that your early Anna differs somehow from the Anna version the Swype-guys have coded for??
What are your phone model, type and software version? (try *#0000#)

Well I do not know for SURE. But would say that I'm almost sure it does NOT. (Thus all the hype on the split screen with 2.0)
Lets hope some swype-guys can see something of your version details.

So the failure is not in Swype but in my memory. I was almost sure I used swype input in split screen with the old version, but at this point I must assume I am wrong.

Well Anna gave you "PORTRAIT" mode with Swype, if I understood below thread right. Maybe that is what you are remembering?

This update does not have a split screen keyboard in 'Notes' application. That's all I wanted to say.

The version of Swype that is on Ovi Store for Symbian^3 devices currently does not support split screen. The Anna version on Beta Labs currently does. Please keep in mind that we can only open in split screen mode if the application supports it. So, if you happen to see that a text field opens in full screen, it is due to the framework.

Just as an addendum, when Nokia implemented the split-screen input for Symbian, they found that the only way they could do it without breaking other application functionality was to make it a new, optional setting in the editor. That means the application that brings up the keyboard has to specifically state that it supports the split-screen keyboard. This applies to all applications, whether written by Nokia or some third party.
The primary reason for this has to do with making sure the editor is repositioned to be above where the keyboard appears and making sure that, should it expand in size (like some editors do), it won't expand beyond the top portion of the screen while the keyboard is still open. (In the applications I write, I make sure to hide everything that isn't vitally important to the input while the keyboard is open.)
Because of that limitation, there wasn't enough time to change all the applications included with Symbian Anna (including, as many have noticed, the Notes application). For those applications, you'll find that you don't get a split-screen keyboard input regardless of whether or not Swype is installed. Swype is just a keyboard replacement, and it's subject to many of the same rules and restrictions as the native Symbian keyboard.
However, I know that the Symbian engineers are definitely keen on adapting all of the applications to use the split-screen keyboard. The last I heard (which, admittedly, is quite a while ago), it was known that not all built-in applications would support split-screen with Anna, but there was a definite goal in mind to have all applications on Belle support the split-screen input. Time will only tell whether or not this comes to pass.

Tha APAC variant of ANNA doesn't have split screen, so swype can't launch it.

Hi, i have two question about swype.
1. Ovi Store have swype 1.x version only. why not have 2.x version?
2. I download anna version from betalabs and i can not see swype more bigger. on youtube i see many videos with swype more bigger, is great. i see normal size only? what do need to make for it?

1 - Version 2.0 is still Beta and that´s why it´s not on Nokia Store
2 - Swype´s keyboard is now smaller, so it can be used in split screen mode with Symbian Anna/Belle.

the split screen doesn't work while using dictionary, alarm (while setting new alarm in clock), while using the find function of the file manager, the communicator application, play via radio (while setting frequency) intranet application, notes (new note), photo editor (while adding bubble text) and ovi store & ovi store beta (while in search).
I am using N8 with Symbian ANNA version 022.014
But I do have to mention that this is a huge improvement on the old swype. Looking forward to a positive reply.

At the call button, i found no alphanumeric keyboard... That's not an improvement... And it does no split screen at all.. Keep working, swype v 1.0 is better
I read in one of the posts that swype will support split screen only to the applications that are supported by the original Nokia keypad.

I don't understand why the split keyboard work in some apps, like Opera, but it doesn't work on Notes (from Nokia).

I just found out there is no split screen support in Notes App on Symbian Anna...Hope it gets fixed by the final version of Swype 2.0

Actually it seems to be a Qt compatibility issue..
I HAD split screen working fine in the applications mentioned by thread starter..
Everything was working flawlessly on my phone until I installed the new nokia maps pack from betalabs.
Then i lost splitscreen in those applications..
Then, i went on this trail .. Ill quote my post from that bug report below
"i have soft reset, i have deleted the qjson.dll, i have uninstalled maps pack, i have reverted to qt 4.7.3 which made the nokia store and fmobi not work. split screen is broken in many apss and the cursor is jumping around like crazy and not allowing control over certain words by replacing them no matter what i do.
And .. because of the fact that so many official nokia apps install on c drive, im so low on space i want to hard reset anwyay. too bad my e: drive is full of stuff i dont want to delete. And i read in another post that a hard reset didnt work either.
The only solution for my main concern ***my keyboard is now basically broken*** is apparently to flash my phone. which i cant do because i only have my roomates mac laptop and nokia canada wont service my phone.
MAIN CONCERN .. will there be a fix minus flashing my phone?
Edit, sorry for my tone, im tired and frustrated. All is love.

-installed qt that i dl from a site in individual files making sure to get most up to date
-installed any parts it let me on my e: drive.
-uninstalled nokia store
-software update found a small file again in anna 2/2, i updated
-i reinstalled store new from betalabs
my keyboard seems fine now.. im just not going to care if splitscreen works or not in any Qt apps. relieved. and mostly ranted to share any insight it might be.
love you guys, just seems like qt needs a lot of work and has a lot of potential
that's the same to me. Swype won't work for me after install ovi map beta. Almost every apps won't work, the worst is fmobi. I even downgrade swype, it also won't work properly. It went crazy when typing halfway.

On my Nokia 701 with Symbian Belle/ german language package the new Swype 2.1 works pretty well. I like to say that only with Swype the small "upright" keyboard can be used properly.
But there is a small bug in the Swype- or the Nokia notes application:
If I use the standard keyboard, the text-window of the notes app has rounded edges at the bottom. If I use the Swype-keyboard, these edges are multi-angular, and you kann see some pixel from the startscreen which is below the notes- application.

Hi, I will like to share my experience with this.
Swype 2.1 was working well in split mode in almost every application in my N8 with Anna, but today I update it to Belle, re install Swype 1.0 from Ovi Store (no split mode) and then install Swype 2.1 from Beta Labs, and all applications show it on full mode.
if I disable the Swype, it show the standard Belle keyboard in split mode on almost any application, but just enabling Swype and full mode is back again on any application.
I hope that Swype release an update soon, which support split mode on Belle, since in Anna does it, and the full mode is kind of annoying.

Hi everyone.
Related to my last comment (16/02/2012), y have been surprised with the situation. My N8 recently updated to Nokia Belle is fixed!
With a simple restart, and i don't know really if something more was needed, Swype application works so well on split mode on almost every application of the phone like Notes, Chat, Social, SMS, Calendar, etc etc.
The only thing that is still present a bug is in Nokia Chat, which change automatically from split mode (while typing) to normal mode (without keyboard) while sending the text, and back again to split mode (ready to new message)...all this in less than a second, so you can imagine (or experience) the awkward of the interface behavior in this case.
