Overview

Explore the future. Make a difference. Know what you are doing - it's still in Beta.

This is the new Beta Labs service, trialled as a beta trough itself. The purpose of Beta Labs is to provide Nokia beta software for customers, receive feedback and so make them better - together. To find out more about what Nokia Beta Labs is, read this.

It is time to let go of the old website and welcome the renewed Beta Labs. For now, we are keeping the old blog (apart from some visual changes) and doing everything else from scratch. The biggest improvements the new site offers are:

  • New technical platform, which enables us to maintain and develop the site more easily
  • A forum, which will be the center of all discussion and feedback
  • Integration with Nokia Account - needed for participating in the forum for obvious reasons and which enables us to create a more social community

Known issues

  • Site occasionally signs you out for now reason

These issues are already being ironed out.

Future plans

We have a lot of improvements planned for the service, some smaller details and others larger functionalities. However, explaining the whole list would be a bit too much. Here are a couple things we are at least planning to improve:

  • Frontpage renewal: improving the frontpage experience by adding and improving features that serve users' needs better.
  • Many user experience improvements
  • Some kind of "My Apps" feature to let you follow the betas you like more easily

Fixed

  • Seemingly random layout breaks with Internet Explorer 6 (Please update your browser)
  • Editing a post removes the post type (e.g. Bugreport)
  • Number of reviews is calculated wrong
  • Forum categorization: there is a need to allow better control over the forum and we are working on this. After we are done, you should be able to see forums for only current / archived / graduated at a time, and in an application's forum, to see only one type of forum threads at a time (bug reports / suggestions / etc.)
  • Adding "updated" to the frontpage "latest releases" -list
  • Filtering the beta list may leave you on an empty page
  • Some user’s personal info is wiped on login
  • Signature is missing from the actual post.
  • The website doesn’t sign you in automatically, although you are signed into NoA. You need to press the “Sign in” button.
  • Transferring blog under Drupal > same commenting as in the forum and no need to fill in your details
  • Mobile website
