Ovi lifecasting

Lifecast with Ovi to share memorable moments with your friends on Facebook

Temporarily closed: max number of beta testers reached

With Ovi, you can now keep your Facebook friends up to date where you are and what you are doing in a new way.

Right from the home screen of your Nokia N97, you can lifecast the street address you are at, and your friends can see your location on a map. You can also share a meaningful location from the nearby places of interest or your favourite place that you have saved on Ovi MapsBeta. To show your friends what a great spot you are exploring, you can take a photo, and attach it to your Facebook post.

This is an exclusive preview of a new Ovi service for the first early birds. Download the Ovi lifecasting widget NOW to make sure you are one of the first exclusive beta users!

Special note: Early bird access to Ovi lifecasting is now closed. In the upcoming weeks we will regularly give access to more users. Stay tuned by visiting us at Nokia Beta labs or following us on Twitter. Many thanks for your support and please continue to provide your feedback!

1. Install the latest Ovi MapsBeta on your Nokia N97.
2. Open Ovi MapsBeta.
3. Check that you have the map data for the country you are going to lifecast from. You can download the map data with Map Loader or over-the-air (data charges may apply).
4. Download the Ovi lifecasting widget, and add it to the home screen of your Nokia N97. Download (SIS, 1.68Mb). Sign in with your Nokia account and connect with your Facebook Profile. [Early bird access to Ovi lifecasting is now closed.]
5. During the setup of the Ovi lifecasting widget, please ensure you select "automatically log in" - otherwise you will not be able to publish (Known issue)
6. Go to the start screen, select Options > Edit Content > Options > Add Content > Ovi Livecaster widget, then select Done.
7. Start lifecasting. Enter your Facebook status, attach a photo to your post, or select how you want to share your whereabouts. Your Nokia N97 detects your current location through GPS/A-GPS or network positioning.
8. Open your Facebook profile to check what you are lifecasting. To display the latest location you have lifecasted from, select the corresponding link in the status update view. You can also check if your friends have commented on your posts, and keep the conversation going.

After you have lifecasted for the first time, your Nokia N97 detects your location every 10 minutes. To refresh your location when desired, in the Ovi lifecasting widget, select the respective icon.

To stop the automatic location detection, you have to remove the Ovi lifecasting widget. If you remove the widget, you are no longer able to lifecast.

Known issues

  • During the setup of the Ovi lifecasting widget, please ensure you select "automatically log in" - otherwise you will not be able to publish. If during the setup of Ovi lifecasting you are not prompted to enter your Nokia Account details, please check that your login credentials are not already being used on the device (e.g. Ovi Contacts). If they are, please remove them (e.g. Ovi Contact > Settings > Account > Remove Account) and try Ovi lifecasting again.     Now fixed!
  • Facebook login expires after few hours. If you are experiencing problems with publishing, you will need to turn off your phone and turn it back on again. When you try using Ovi lifecasting again, you will need to resign in to Facebook.
  • Map Loader – we have noticed in some cases that Ovi lifecasting is locking onto the e:/cities folder and therefore not allowing Map Loader to access it. As a temporary fix, on your Homescreen click Options > Edit content > Remove the Ovi lifecasting widget > Done > Reboot your phone and then you will be able to use Map Loader. Of course, once you have loaded the necessary map data to your device, re-enable the Ovi lifecasting widget.
  • Currently you may experience some problem uploading photos. This issue will be resolved in the next few days.

Compatibility and system requirements

Ovi lifecasting currently only supports Nokia N97 devices. You also need Ovi MapsBeta and the Ovi lifecasting widget installed in your device.

Lifecasting is only possible if your real life location is automatically detected. Therefore, your location is automatically updated on your Ovi lifecasting widget, which involves transmission of data. Contact your network service provider for information about data transmission charges.
