Share Online 3.0 launched at Nokia Beta Labs, tell us what you think!

shareonline_NRC.jpg

I took the pic last week and uploaded it to Flickr with Share Online 3.0. Click the image to see the resulting page.

Let me introduce the latest version of our fancy media sharing app: Share Online 3.0.

Key features:
shareonline_features.PNG

Go try it and tell us what you think!

Download here.

How do you like it? How could we improve it? What is great, what should be improved, what should be abandoned?

Write your thoughts either (a) to the feedback form or (b) to the comments section of this post. As always, the R&D team is listening.

Note: at this point, the R&D team wanted to highlight only N73 and N95 as compatible devices, and only Flickr as compatible service. Other devices and services work too - but be prepared for possible glitches here and there.

too bad it's only available for the N-series....why not for E-series too?

Nice. On my N95 everything worked well, the app was stable. The interface was easy to use for a beginnner (I had never used share online before).
And the upload process was smooth. Good work so far.

Great job on this piece of software! I love the fotostream functionality. Installing over the default v12.0.13 version worked like a charm.

Thanks DW. About the N73 thing, the team will investigate. About the interquest thing, I had no idea about that - we'll remove that asap.

Just installed, kinda buggy, had to remove version 2 before instaling it, or else it would give me a cryptic "Installing Error", but after that, oh boy it's slick. Great execution of the user interface!

Here are my two nags:
-In settings>my accounts, it looks like a string of text is missing.
-In flickr, I tryed to coment in one of my photos to test, commented with "", as it looks like html flickr don't display anything, but it shows up in the app without giving me any error about invalid comment!

Now great, next step: Make possible to delete comments on the go. But adding comments to contact's photos on the go blew my mind. Great job again!

installation isnt successful.

it gives an error message "unable to delete file" and then exits the install - the install process was about 70% complete.

the previous version (2.07.24) is still on my phone.

note: i am a beta user of jaiku so the jaiku errormessages.sis app might be the one that is telling me about the error. if i didnt have that app opened then i dont know if the install would just "silently" exit.

(i am also using the latest firmware for the n73)

also non app related, there is a survey.interquest.fi link somewhere on this page that makes it very very slow to open it. it says "connecting" to the survey link for about 15seconds. adblocking the survey link made the page open with no problems.

darren.

Hello. I would love GPS info in EXIF (and copy from there to Flickr-tags too). Maybe the most popular text-formatting tags (italics, anchor etc.) in comment fields would be nice, now the tags are visible and not interpreted.

Maybe using Flickr-tags could be nicer, perhaps some sort of implementation of a tag-cloud.

Yeah. Great application, and i love it that it integrates with the other S60 applications. I wish a lot more applications on mobile phones would integrate with one another and with the basic operating system.

Share Online uses the screen efficiently and is fast and smooth. Well done i think and a good example of a mobile application.

The install went smooth, but now I can't upload anything to flickr. I haven't had any issues with the out-of-the-box flickr solution that was on my N95; but now after installing Share Online I keep getting an error message when trying to sign up for Flickr. Something about "The API key or signature is invalid." But it shows that I'm at least logged into Flickr's mobile site. Any suggestions? Because I tried to uninstall Mobile Share and I still cannot upload pictures.

I also had a problem installing on my N95, but yep, Ricky's advice about uninstalling previous versions worked also.

I'd like to be able to use it to upload my videos to Vimeo.

Built in Flickr config works great on N95, but I could not activate MOSH using the config that comes down with the MOSH S60 app (from mosh.nokia.mobi/start)

Nice to see the new features being added. I found this version more stable for me at least. The privacy settings is particularly nice - I'm more inclined to upload family only photos from the phone than I am public ones (most of the time).

The ability to then send people and email link is also rather nice.

The feed name in the list view get cut off after just 3 or four letters when there's room for a lot more (see screenshot).

There seems to be limit of 20 or soon the photo / contact lists. This is a bit frustrating when you have more contacts, though I imagine this is an RSS feed limitation.

If you delete one the default feeds by accident (e.g. everyone's photos) you can not get it back.

I'd echo the call for geo tags - but should be optional and should be written into EXIF tags - as such its not really a Share Online features - it something that needs to be built into the Camera.

Support for more services would be nice. Also perhaps some updated specs on how it works (especially some of the newer features such as tagging etc.). I know the Lifeblog protocol has been published but I'm not sure how up to date this is (and it might be worth publicsing it a bit more on the Share Online page to encourage people to use it / play with it). Might actually be nice if Nokia made some generic classes available in something like PHP which made implementing it on your own service / blog provider easier.

Can you please tell me how the images/videos get uploaded? I don't want to rely on Flickr, Vox or any of your partners. I just want my content and I'm willing to create my own version of Flickr, but I need to know how I have to set up my server to receive the content. Can you please provide that info?

Thanks.

"What's the point/advantage of this application over Nokia LifeBlog"

With Nokia Lifeblog you upload the pictures to your PC. With this app, you upload them to the internet.

I for one don't think geotagging would be all that great on most devices, N95 included. Taking photos already sucks up the battery very quickly. I can only imagine how much quicker if opening the camera app also started the gps.

#27 magnus Mon, 2007-10-08 11:12

The application works fine on my N95. But geotagging would be a very interesting feature. I mean, we have the N95 with built in GPS.. and camera.. the two should be brought together to provide a picture with GPS coordinates embedded, ready for geotagging and other use.

Hi Álvaro. if you have a previous (version 2) on your N73 or N95, then you need to uninstall that first, then try installing the Share v3

i'm guessing Ricky has a lemon :-) or some weird config. ShoZu works just great (as the only app installed) on my brand new N95-1 with the latest firmware which I am trialling until October 9th

#37 Roland Tanglao Fri, 2007-10-05 22:41

My feature requests:
1) MetaWeblogAPI NewMediaObject
2) Atom Publishing Protocol (which I think you have since you post to flickr and Vox) for videos and photos
3) unlimited upload over WiFi, please no bogus 5 or 10MB limits over WiFi
4) suspend/resume upload functionality ala ShoZu (best done via licensing ShoZu or acquring :-) ShoZu)

Some thoughts, which will also be posted on my site:

1. As noted above, you need to remove the 2.0 before installing 3.0. This needs to be fixed, and written out on the beta labs download page until it gets fixed.

2. No-click upload is what I'm waiting for. Yes, ShoZu does that, but they refuse to support the N95. I've tried at least four times with my N95, with varying applications installed, and even from a fresh hard reset, and it still kills it. Nokia needs to step in, imo.

3. Video upload - Let's see a direct upload to Blip.tv or, at the least, YouTube. Though I'd MUCH prefer Blip.tv.

-Ricky

Yet another cool sounding app from Nokia Beta labs, and yet:

- it does not work on Series 40 phones (how about some love for the 6300?)
- it does not even work on all models of Series 60 phones.

In preparation for a full reset of the N95, so I could try to install Share Online 3 again, I installed PC Suite 2beta to back up my content and settings. During the connection process (phone to PC/Pc Suite) something called MMS was installed on the phone. Anyway, it seems that Share Online is working as I had two new icons appear on the Standby Screen the next time I looked at it, an asterisk and a speech bubble.

n73 user here.

can we please make an option for real 1-click upload, like in shozu. we can add tags and descriptions later, right?

snap a photo. be asked if we would like to "upload photo"

click yes or no.

now that would be sweet.

Yeah, that is what I am asking myself too, what is the difference between Nokia Lifeblog and Online Share?
You can upload to flickr and vox using Lifeblog on the N95 8GB too. So for what two applications doing the same? Or is it just for "click-saving"? Online Share might be faster in uploading counted on clicks, but with Lifeblog you can add additional infos to your foto or video.

When used in unreliable data network - posting is interrupted several times - I often experienced double posting... Especially when I got two or more images in one post.

I know this might be the network problem, but wondering if there is something that the application can do.
